Nrx vs Glx

Post by Yajup » Wed Feb 12, 2014 5:15 pm

Im in a dilemma between buying glx 895 and nrx 895. Is it worth the money to get the Nrx. Im going to use it to throw jigs from 1/2 to 1 ounce..

Unless you have used the NRX you may question the cost. Once you use it, it's worth every cent IMO.

Check out the 894 though, as I think it is a better rod for the intended application.

Look around for a rep sample and get the NRX.

I've fished the 894 and 895 in both GLX and NRX. The GLX are nice rods, no doubt, but the NRX are significantly nicer and are worth the difference if you can swing it. They're lighter, more crisp, sensitive, and not as tip heavy, especially in the 895.

I'd also stick to the 895 NRX if you're going to be fishing full 1oz jigs often, add in a trailer and you're near 1.25 oz total weight.

"Never Settle". Finances aside, if you can afford the best, buy it. You never hear anyone say they are sorry they own the best of anything. Usually the opposite is true, especially when it relates to a passion item purchase.

Not to say there aren't great products available, at less than top tier status and premium pricing, there are (and they certainly have a place in the market and one's collection as value purchases).

My personal experience has always resulted in me wondering what I was missing by settling for something less. :-k I then ultimately buy what I should have bought the first time. ](*,)

Just my $.02

This describes me to a T and I wish I had known this years ago. Save a little and get the NRX.

yeah i agree with the top posters i used to get a lower end rod for saving money purposes and in the end i thought i was missing something or another. I owned the glx 854 last year and it was a great rod for sure but i definitely like my nrx 854 better. I would save and get the nrx you will enjoy it. last year i was against buying used equipment but this year i changed a little i bought my 854, 852s, and 822 syr for 900.00 two of the rods where new and the 822 was used but in the end i got the nrx rods for 300 a piece so if you look for a rep sample or used you can come out on top unless you just want the brand new rod.

Nice, I am hoping to get my first NRX as a Birthday present this coming June. I've dropped hints with my wife...haha...I own 3 GLX (853,854,894) and asked for the 893C or the 852S. Gave them options so I can have a half surpised. :D

Let us know how you like the 895!

The Tackle Trap sells rep sample G Loomis rods when we get them. Ours always include a receipt, we're an authorized dealer, and our customers have no problem registering for their wild card.

I can verify this, because I just received my Wildcard from Shimano for the Rep. Sample 916 I purchased from The Tackle Trap.

As a side note, The Tackle Trap is a great place to purchase goods from. Top notch communication and quick shipping.

i've bought two "the hooked up tackle" dealer rods without any issues.

just make sure your buying from an authorized dealer.

I have a GLX BSR 852 and a NRX 852s. IMO there is little comparison, the NRX is that impressive. Lighter, more sensitive, and a joy to fish with. The only problem, as I have stated here before, is that my NRX tip snapped in it's second year and they wanted the "wild card" to replace it.
