Crankbait on A Swim Bait Rod??

Post by Mike Andrews » Thu Feb 13, 2014 12:32 am

Specifically XD10 on a Dobyns 795ML. Has anyone tried it? I bought a 795 when the holiday sales were on for an A-rig rod but am looking for other uses. I've never thrown an XD10 so I'm not sure what to expect....I do have other CB rods available including an 805 so this isn't a necessity but like I said just looking for another use.

Glass and composite "swimbait rods" with say, mod-fast actions and parabolic tapers, for bigger/heavier cranks - is a no brainer, IMO. ;)

I guess I'll buy one of the small child fist size things (10XD) and give it a try....nothing to lose other than a few $$.

Just keep in mind that "tech spec" is a marketing tool by rod companies...they mean literally nothing to those who understand blank terminology, ie, taper, power, length, etc., and ultimately the overall build - which dictates the completed rod's "fishability" per the end user and intended tech/techs.

If anyone really wanted a personalized "tech spec" rod, they would consult with a reputable, knowledgeable, accomplished custom rod builder.

My five cents worth since the Penny is now defunct! ;)

I think that rod will do great with those big ol cranks.
