Irod Genesis II
Re: Irod Genesis II
I have a Fred’s and love it. It’s a great multipurpose heavy rod. I would kill for a 6’6” rod with the same power/taper to use as a bushwhacking rod.
Re: Irod Genesis II
What do you mean by "all purpose"? What techniques are you wanting to pull off? Those are two entirely different rods.smr913 wrote:I bought the 744c last year and like the rod, but it was pretty tip heavy. I added a counter balance weight on the butt and it was crazy how much that improved the feel of the setup. Still trying to figure out the next one to try out. Probably either the 763CC "Fred's Crank Jr." or the 704C for an all purpose rod.
Re: Irod Genesis II
What I wrote was a little confusing. I meant that I'm looking at the Fred's stick for cranking or the 704 as an all purpose rod.Finnz922 wrote:

Re: Irod Genesis II
Gotcha! I have both. What do you want the 704 to do. It's a fairly stout stick.smr913 wrote:What I wrote was a little confusing. I meant that I'm looking at the Fred's stick for cranking or the 704 as an all purpose rod.Finnz922 wrote:

Re: Irod Genesis II
Was thinking of using it for Texas rigs and jigs around docks, spinner baits, and buzzbaits. What do you like it for?Finnz922 wrote: Gotcha! I have both. What do you want the 704 to do. It's a fairly stout stick.
Re: Irod Genesis II
For me, I don't like the 704 for moving baits unless you count hollow-bodied frogs moving baits. It is my short frog rod when I'm in tight quarters. I also like it for big jigs and t-rigs over 3/8. Everyone fishes differently, but this is not a spinnerbait/buzzbait rod for me. I would use your 693, 703, 733, 744, or the 754 for what you are trying to do. The 733 fishes the lightest out of the bunch and the 754 is hands down fishes the heaviest. I really think the 733 shines for weightless baits up to 1/4oz rigs/jigs. I won't hesitate to use it for spinnerbait. I have the 744 and I use that for buzzbaits and larger topwaters. The TT review of the 744 is a pretty decent review and gives you an idea of its versatility.

Re: Irod Genesis II
I have the 744 now and like it. From what you say about the 704 I'll probably end up going with the Crank Jr. I have several rods close to the 704 and am missing a setup for crankbaits in the DT10 range. Appreciate all your input on this.
Re: Irod Genesis II
Crank jr will be perfect for DT 10s and similar cranks
Re: Irod Genesis II
Riprap special was always one of my favorites for specifically the DT10 ahh the good old days
Re: Irod Genesis II
RipRap Special is quite the versatile rod. I like mine for flat sided cranks, Series 3, and small squarebills.Cristo wrote:Riprap special was always one of my favorites for specifically the DT10 ahh the good old days
