Would the Savvy 734C make a good jig and Texas rig rod? My concern is that the tip could be too soft for me. I'm accustomed to "extra-fast" rods for jigs and Texas rigs.

If looking in the Savvy Series, look at the 735C instead if you don't want the soft tip. The 735 was too fast for me while frogging which sounds like it might be great for you. I did use it for Jigs and texas rigs but ended up getting a champ 735 instead because it was my frog rod and had too much tip IMO for that technique.

I use the DX745 for jigs (pitchin) and a DX743 for light texas rigs.

It really depends on the weight of the jigs/t-rigs you'll be using.

I like the 734C for jigs up to 3/8oz. These are arkie head jigs with 3X hooks. Earlier in the season with lighter vegetation, I'll use it for up to 1/2oz.

735 is an x-fast action rod so it will get to lock up more quickly. Being a 5 power, it is also a more powerful rod. Lots of guys actually like using the 735 for (heavier) jigs & t-rigs.

I feel like the Savvy 734C is way too moderate for a T-rig/jig rod. I use mine for buzzbaits because it has enough backbone, but the tip is soft enough that it allows the fish to take it.

I would go with the 735C if you want to use it for T-rigs/jigs. It has a slightly stiffer tip.

Good point 'shippy. The Savvy series rods are a little more moderate versus the Champion series rods.

The SS 734C might not be what I'm looking for. I've owned a Champion 704C and liked it for medium texas rigs and jigs. To me, it wasn't a true heavy but in between MH and H. My question now is will the SS 704C's action be close to the Champ 704C? Or will it be like what you guys described the 734C, minus 3 inches.

The savvy 704 will be slower than it's champ counterpart. I personally wouldn't use a savvy for any sort of feel technique.

Again, it depends on the weights you want to throw when thinking of the 734 or 734 if you're staying in the savvy series.

IMO, it isn't night & day but it is a noticeable difference.

Agree. The only way you would notice is if you have used both.

What weight jigs & t-rigs are you planning on using? The 735 might be a better rod for you.

Jigs = 3/8 oz jig with trailer. Texas rigs = 1/4 to 3/8 oz sinker + hook + plastic. Don't think I will go over that. Fished in moderate cover, nothing too nasty.

The 4 power rod would work great for the weights & the cover you're describing. IMO, 3/16oz plus plastic to 3/8oz plus plastic is the 'sweet spot' for the rod. When cover is light, I'll use it for 1/2oz plus trailer but I feel that is the upper limit on the rod.

IMO, the SS735 will work really well for the 3/8oz (plus trailer, etc). It will load nicely & give good feedback whether casting or pitching. If you move down 1/4oz (plus trailer, etc), it will pitch it well. It won't load great when overhead casting. I'm not saying it won't load & give feedback. I'm saying it won't be great.

As already discussed before, the Savvy series rods fish a little more moderately than the Champs. I've got to believe that it has something to do with the modulus of blank material used. Prior to the server crash, there were a few threads where some of use were talking about it. Through discussion, we agreed it wasn't limited to just one brand. Several members, including myself, experienced it as we 'upgraded' models within a brand.

I've got buddies who like the Savvy sticks for jigs & t-rigs. I prefer the slightly faster fishing Champs & DX. It is all in personal preference thing.
