nrx 893c jwr

Post by snyder150 » Thu Oct 09, 2014 11:59 am

Thinking of purchasing this rod. I usually throw 5/16 oz jigs how would this rod be for this application? ? Also what else can this rod be used for I mostly fish the Susquehanna river for smallmouth. Can it be used for any reaction baits in a pinch? Flukes, texas rigged Senko? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as id hate to order this rod and not get what id be expecting? ? Thanks in advance. TT is a life saver !!!

I use mine mostly for flukes & seniors and it's great. I think most on this site think it's a great under 1/2 oz jig rod.

Should be a perfect fit for everything you're describing provided the cover isn't overly heavy. I pretty much use the same rod for the same things and it's marvelous. I have thrown spinner baits with it up to a half ounce and it did remarkably well. Hope this helps.

Some say 1/2 oz and others say 3/8 oz is the sweet spot.I am more of the 3/8 oz camp myself but regardless, with 5/16 you are golden. Anything you want to texas rig is about fair game along with the flukes and senkos. I use mine successfully with buzzbaits on occasion .There is a pond I fish that is a salad bowl with water in it and I use the 893 there to throw little dippers because I like how much line moves on the hookset and I rarely miss fish.It has something to do with the length and the XF taper that makes the 893 have the "it" factor going for it. If you need a longer MH rod then you just about cant go wrong with the 893 for your applications.

Very fun, sensitive and versatile rod. Hard to imagine you not liking, and finding it useful for many different bass presentations.

Yes and it's awesome. In winter, I fish tubes deep for small mouth and the 893 is one of my favorite sticks for this technique.

To the OP - I use the 893 for bottom contact stuff exclusively. I'm not a fan of how its extra fast taper feels when loading a spinner bait or buzz bait for example. I know others don't mind and find the rod far more versatile than I do. However, it really is one of the finest bottom contact rods in it's intended weight range that I've had the pleasure to fish!

90% of my fishing is smallmouth but in reservoir/lakes. For 1/4-1/2oz jigs my go to rods are NRX843 and my newly acquired NRX853. I think either will fit into what your looking for over the 893 but that just my opinion. The shorter rods will be easier to maneuver if shore fishing not sure if that's the case here. Yes the extra length is nice on the 893 but so far zero issues hook setting wise with either rod in 30FOW. Sorry to confuse you anymore.

the NRX893C is my favorite rod. IMHO, it was made for flukes and senkos and also the best possible choice bottom-contact baits up to 5/8-ounce max. it can fling spinnerbaits a mile but i only used it for that in a pinch and my hookup ratio was not so great (can it be TOO sensitive? ). out of my rods, i think it has the most "it" factor.

It is awsome for all soft plastics and bottom contact baits from 3/16 to a little over 1/2 ounce. It is great that it feels equally at home with lighter weight soft plastics as it does with medium weight ones assuming you have a reel that can handle lighter baits.

It does work nice for single hook reaction baits like a spinnerbait/chatterbait/swim jig although the tip is a little more extra fast than ideal for those baits. It is a very poor rod for treble hook reaction baits. I have tried it with crankbaits in a pinch and it has a low hookup rate and allot come unbuttoned.

Yes, fished mine on Table Rock last winter quite a bit. 3/8 oz Texas rigged tubes, 15-30 FOW. Bite is very light, 893 does a good job of helping detect that light bite.

ci4 HG on mine and balance isn't to bad at all. Core 50 makes it too tip heavy.

I use my 893 for only bottom contact baits. mostly use it for beavers with a 1/4 or 5/16 oz. tungsten weight. I fish this rod with a core 100, but have also used my core 50 on it. I put a custom rod balancer on it to help balance the rod out. The core 100 does balance it better than the 50. And by the way this rod kicks azz.
