medium or medium-heavy? that is the question
I'm thinking of getting a new rod mainly for picking apart sparse shoreline cover with weightless to lightweight plastics and finesse jigs. I may throw the occasional small spinnerbait on it as well. It'll be between 6'8 and 6'10 with 10 to 12 pound line. I just can't decide if I should go with a med or m/h. I'm open to rod suggestions as well.

In your case...Med Pwr is likely the better option to combine better loading of your noted lure weights, while still providing for more fun while fighting the fish and still having enough power.
Keep in mind, manufacturer's ratings can differ with power ratings.

I use a medium power rod for the applications you describe. I'm currently using a MB X4 Super Mirage and love it. It's 7' though. You should say how much your looking to spend to narrow down the rod suggestions.

I'd say medium also, it gives you a lot more flexibility in the size of finesse jig you can use and baits in general. MH could work but I think medium would be better.

I was leaning a little more towards the medium. Price wise I'm mostly looking in the $150-$200 range. But I'd probably spend more if I think the rod is the bees knees

Omen Black has the 6'7" and 6'10" medium and at $99.99, these are good quality rods and a great value.NorthernStrain wrote:I was leaning a little more towards the medium. Price wise I'm mostly looking in the $150-$200 range. But I'd probably spend more if I think the rod is the bees knees
There are a few other options like the Tatula (and the new Zillion is not much more) and the new Shimano Crucial 6'8" Medium (these new blanks are stiffer than the previous gen Crucial). Dobyns, Fenwick, Phenix as well, but not many in the lengths you mention...mostly 6'6" or 7'0".
Good luck

The Kistler Helium 3 in light medium heavy. I have owned the 6'8" for quite some time now and use it for almost exactly what your intended uses are and I really, really like it. One thing to note though, I find it feels and "balances" best with a lightweight reel (6 ounces or less).

Medium-heavy. It's good to have power in reserve. Better to have and not need then the other way around. Especially for jigs and spinnerbaits.

I like using the lightest rod possible. Look into certain rod companies that tend to make rods on the powerful side. Abu Garcia usually under rate rod power a bit so a medium Veracity would be in your range. You can find them for 99.99 to 120 online.

A little out of the length range, but the 7' jig/worm okuma TCS is a my with a decently soft tip... Msrp around $140, too!
