Older cumara value
Fellas,
Looking at an older grey Cumara in a local shop. They still have it marked at 229.99 but they said they would take offers. What would this be worth? If I could get it for 140, is that a good? Would it be better than any 150 dollar rod off the rack today?
I am a Daiwa man, but in the lightest combo post, I saw a lot of cumara rods. I'm interested....

I would go with low $100 range...like $125 or so. This said, you did not state what length and model it is? I owned the 7'11" MHXF crankbait Cumara and the blank was brilliant for lots of power/moving techs...this said, I did not like the build material and design of the handles/reel seat/handle length. Really wish I could find out which manufacturer made that blank!RMCatchNrelease wrote:Fellas,

FWIW, some models of the 1st Gen early production Cumaras did have a breakage history so there is a chance that you will eventually have a newer model replacement. Regardless, just fish the snot out of it and if it breaks Shimano's warranty will "upgrade" you to the current model.
Good luck.
Re: Older cumara value
Used market rate for black cumura is around $140 give or take $20. So a new one for $140 is good. They are more sought after than the red models but both took a hit when shimano ended the lifetime warranty. From my understanding you still get a one time, life time warranty on that rod since it was made before last year.

Re: Older cumara value
It is the 7' medium 1/4-5/8.
Re: Older cumara value
The Black Cumara shared blanks with the Crucial, IM10. I replaced all mine with the new Cumara and was getting $100-$150 depending on model for my old ones. Brian.
Re: Older cumara value
Try offering $125 - $130 to start...this is not a shorter rod nor their longest, and the medium from what I recall was not as popular as the MH in the 7' length.RMCatchNrelease wrote:It is the 7' medium 1/4-5/8.
Otherwise there are not many other rods off the rack for $150 today that will fish/perform as well, granted some rods on today's market will have as nice a build in so far as components, and even aesthetics (FWIW).
Worthwhile at that kind of money if you like the feel and can put to use the power/taper/length of this rod.

Re: Older cumara value
Ive always payed $100-150 for used 1st gen cumaras. My local shop hooked me up at $125 for one when the new red model came out.
$150 would be the max id offer. They are one of my favorite lines of rods. Very light, sensitive, and awesome reelseat/handles...

Got it for 130 cash. Plastic and rod warranty paperwork still on rod. Alphas 105 finesse will be sacriligiously placed on top.
Edit: went with the Ito with 105 spool. Balance was perfect and the 5.8 will be good for small cranks. The rod has a perfect med-fast action.

Nice deal, congrads on the purchase. I had a Cumulus 6'10 Casting rod...don't know why I sold it, wish I could go back in time
Re: Older cumara value
Both blanks might be rated as "IM-10", but it's been confirmed by Bantam1 that they are not identical.a1712 wrote:The Black Cumara shared blanks with the Crucial, IM10.
Re: Older cumara value
The cumara blank is much more sensitive.
Even the new model crucial doesn't compare to the black cumaras
