Re: Shimano Zodias
Wow, nice fish.
Re: Shimano Zodias
Just got my new combo (7' MH), looks and feels fantastic. I'm a little disappointed about the lack of hook keeper though. Spooled up with 8 lb. McCoy Xtra Clear.
Re: Shimano Zodias
Go to your local tackle store and get the Fuji hook keeper with the rubber rings, very little money and keeps the baits and hooks off of your blank.

Yeah that's what I was planning on.speckdog wrote:Go to your local tackle store and get the Fuji hook keeper with the rubber rings, very little money and keeps the baits and hooks off of your blank.
Re: Shimano Zodias
I got my bait casting rod Shimano Zodias Casting Rod 7'2" Medium. I used it with my Metanium 2013 reel and frankly I am unimpressed with it. The build quality is good in general, but nothing special. The reel seat is not comfortable with extended use, in the beginning it felt good given its ergonomic shape, but after 3hrs I was starting to get some pain and discomfort from the shape. The action is on the fast side for me and the power was more on the MH vs. just Medium. The EVA grip is also inferior to cork in my opinion, it just feels cheap and hard. It doesn't have a hook keeper either so it's something to consider.
Overall compared to my St. Croix LTB the Shimano definitely feels cheap and in a much lower class. I see all the features that Shimano lists about this rod, but in the end it just doesn't perform like a $199 rod. I will be looking to replace the Zodias in the coming weeks.

Re: Shimano Zodias
I think what you listed was all pretty much personal preference. I was looking at adding the medium and medium heavy to my arsenal. I love fast actions, don't notice any difference between cork and EVA when actually fishing, and hate mounted hook keepers for the damage they do to the blank with baits hooked on. Any thought on sensitivity and power?
The LTB is also 60-90 dollars more, by comparison. What other sub 200 dollar rods would you say are better?

Re: Shimano Zodias
These sticks are pretty slick. They have more backbone than what you expect from a Shimano rod. Sensitivity was excellent for those that were worried.
Re: Shimano Zodias
Anyone have the 65L BFS 2 pc casting model I've seen from Japan? Curious how the action is

Re: Shimano Zodias
How much power or stiffness does the mh spinning rod have? The line ratings seem kinda on the low end for a mh rod. thanks
Re: Shimano Zodias
Picked up the 6'10" ML, looking forward to testing it out on the water this weekend.
Re: Shimano Zodias
Which model is best for 3/8 oz jigs with 14lb fluoro? I'm looking at the 6'10"MH, 7'2"MH or 7'2"H. I don't know why, but I'm leaning towards the 6'10"MH. Something about them 6'10" rods.
