3 rods in your budget that alot of people are using are the 13 omen 6'10ml, phenix recon 682L & 683ml. The daiwa airedge seems to be getting a good review from a tt member.

For a $100 dollar BFS rod I have not found one I like better than the 13Fishing Omen A 6'10" ML.

I have been using the Air Edge 681 on two trips since acquiring it about two weeks ago. The rod is really light and sensitive and should be right at the $200 level once you factor in shipping from Japan. I got mine from Plat and since it is one piece the freight cost a lot.

I have caught two smallies on it so far, one 3 pound 2 ounces and the other 4 pounds 11 ounces. It handled these fish without issue.

I have the two piece Major Craft Volkey 692XUL and it is as BFS as you can get. I use mine for small jigs, spoons, and topwater. My favoite thing to throw is a 3" kietech easy shiners on 1/16oz jighead and small 1/8oz popR for bass. However, you do have to reel down and swing hard on single hooked baits for bass as the tip is so soft. When trout fishing the hookset is much less important. Here is one I would probably get if I could do it over.

Those Maxims do look like a nice rod for the money.

I almost pulled the trigger on this Chinese Rod but decided it was too short (6'10" in my minimum).

The specs and price look quite enticing if you want a 6'5" rod.

Yeah the 13fishing rod looks good... looks like major craft has several to choose from.
Not a fan of foam grips but the others look like great rods also...
Wonder what a custom bfs would run me???

I am also looking for one to put my Core50 on. So far the rods I have found are the above mentioned, the Palms Lurk Shooter, and Valley Hill Cyphlist. They are 7'6" and 7'11" maybe a bit long for what you are looking for. I am looking for a rod to throw small jigs for Smallmouths. My G Loomis 842-2 is too soft for this but great for small cranks and spinners. I want the extra length for drop shot fishing for stream trout.

Let us know what you end up buying. I may just have to stick to something shorter. I saw a Shimano Expride on Rakuten, 6' 5" light 2 piece for somewhere right around 180. May be worth a look?

With the Omen 6'10" ML and a bone stock Fuego set on 5 with spool tension set so that you have to shake the tip to get the lure to drop I am constantly getting 80' with a 1/8th chatter bait with no plastic trailer.

As for a custom I guess the sky is the limit. Looking at possibly getting a BFS flipping stick and so far the only thing that has really caught my eye was a custom build off a Phenix K2 blank which is rated at 1/16 to 1/2 as a casting rod. Just the blank from Phenix is roughly $250.00.

Here is the Omen A 610ML with a 1/2oz lipless hanging from the tip top. It is a great rod and has enough tip to go as low as say 1/8 oz, but gets into a solid backbone quick. I had a reel with 12lbs on it when I hooked I to a 7 pounder and horsed it away from cover and landed her pretty quick. It is my next step up from the Volkey BFS and I throw PopX, finesse jigs with trailers, and wacky rigs on 8-12lbs line.

Here is the Volkey in action fighting a 3.5lbs trout. Was throwing 1/16 oz head with 2" grub on 6lbs floro.
