Value bfs rod

Post by finebassfisher » Sun Feb 22, 2015 4:21 pm

I'm in the market for a bfs rod that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg. Something preferably around 250 to 300$. The reel I'll be using is going to be a px type r. Weight will be about as low as 1/8 jig heads for flick shakes and weightless plastics. The zodias looks to be a nice fit rated down to 3/16 and would look great with a px type r. But with it being brand new I don't really know and would appreciate some tried and true bfs sticks. I'm only looking at the usdm market as well right now currently.

Check out the Major Craft BFS rods. I have a Go Emotion model and have been very impressed by it (especially for the ~$150 including shipping price). They have other prices points of course. The Volkey seems to be a popular model in their lineup.

There is also the 13 Fishing 6'10" A series Omen ML rated down to 1/8th for $100.00. I can cast a 1/8oz chatterbait without trailer 90ft using just a stock Fuego and 8lb line.

Are any of those models USDM?

I wouldn't call $250 value priced... That is high end. Have you looked at any of the Loomis stuff? I think you can get a 2 powered used NRX or GLX or a new IMX that might for your bill.

Not many great USDM bfs models. For the price, you are hard pressed to get the fit and finish of a jdm stick. The Major Craft Volkey will blow your mind in many categories for sub $200 tyd. If you are looking for cheaper, the Daiwa Blazon is another one to look at. It would be a great stick for sub $130 tyd. If you are only going as low as 1/8 oz, the OMEN A 610ML is an amazing rod. For $100 you won't do better and the action and power is perfect for light jigs, worms, topwater, and even shallow cranks/rip baits/spy baits. If you want the ultimate UL bfs rod, the volkey is a great value based decision. I have thrown a nymph on a bobber with my XUL. It is an ultra light beast that has handled 7 pound bass and 9 pound trout. In open water it could not be more fun.

February must be BFS month on TT. Love all the threats. Still can't decide on baitcaster or spinning.

I think we need a dedicated board under fishing & techniques for BFS.

Kistler KLX 6'6" ML would be my choice for USDM BFS stick. But to bad they don't have the micro K guides on them any longer.

Lol your right! I should have put decently priced. And thanks for the suggestions I'll look into the volkey.

Major craft Volkey and Daiwa Airedge get my vote. A little less expensive but still nice sticks are the Major craft corzza and Daiwa blazon.

If the lowest you are throwing is 1/8th then I suggest a Major craft that goes down to 1/32. So 1/8th will be right in the sweet spot. They have quite a few bfs models to choose from.

Ok I wanted just to go usdm but after looking at the volkey and all the hype around it it's definitely swaying my opinion to go the jdm route.

got a 6''5 ul corzza to my door for $150. took about a week. corzza is cheaper than the volkey, has cork grips which i like and got the micro k series guides. from my understanding the bfs volkey has regular micros

along with the great action and feel, the detailing and craftmenship is amazing. very overwhelmed by how much of a rod i got for that money. zero regret and i feel like i got more than my moneys worth.

you ever buy a expensive rod and feel alittle disappointed it? it will be the complete opposite with majorcrafts cheap prices and value
