Looking for a spinnerbait rod

Post by Yerman » Thu Mar 12, 2015 4:58 pm

Hey guys, I am in the market for a new spinnerbait setup. I'll be fishing Lake El Salto in a couple months and it was recommended that I focus on a 7' MH or a 7' H rod for fishing 20lb mono.

I've narrowed it down to:

Shimano Cumara Spinnerbait Casting Rod 6'10" MH Xfast
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Shimano_ ... CCSPR.html

Shimano Zodias Casting Rod 7'2" Med Hvy
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Shimano_ ... e-ZDC.html

Phenix M1 Casting Rod 7'2" Med Hvy
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Phenix_M ... -PMOC.html

Phenix M1 Casting Rod 7'2" Heavy
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Phenix_M ... -PMOC.html

I was hoping to get some feedback on my choices and/or some other recommendations.

Thanks.

Haven't fished any of those rods. The mh zodias is a average mh, as far as stiffness. I used a dobyns champion 734c for a year. I now use a daiwa tatula 7'2mhr. It's a powerful mh rod wit a reaction type bend. Not sure of the weight, but it's super light. Only $150 & probably could be had for around $100 online. Works for chatterbaits, swim jigs, traps also. Best blade/chatterbait rod I've ever owned

Well...I ended up with the Phenix Recon 2. I thought it had the best features for the price. I got it in 7'1" MH and even though it's rated 8-17lb, I feel comfortable with running 20lb on it for abrasion resistance in the thick cover on El Salto and backing the drag down a little bit to keep it in the range of the rod specs. I also like that it's a little bit lighter so when I get back from El Salto I can fish it with 12-14lb which I usually use when fishing spinnerbaits.

Thanks for reading.

If money is no option...the NRX 843 is the best spinnerbait rod I've ever used, and does a ton of other applications. Also MBR 843 GLX or for a little cheaper IMX, both can still be found, and again do a lot of other apps. And there is a NRX trade in program going on at The Hook up Tackle (tomorrow is the last day)
