Shimano Zodias 610 ml
Has anyone purchased this rod yet? I really want to know if the ratings are accurate. I'd also like to know how fast the rod is. If it's oober fast I don't want to order it. I'm looking to order the 2 piece from Plat. Hoping it's as versatile as Shimano claims as I'd be using it for both single hook baits and treble hook baits. I'm assuming it should be fine being a medium light, but I've fished some rather stiff medium light rods before.

It's more of a medium fast/fast tip, not xf. Great for jerks and sub 1/2oz baits.

Thanks. Much appreciated. Does the blank have a fair to decent flex to it under load?cndbasshunter wrote:It's more of a medium fast/fast tip, not xf. Great for jerks and sub 1/2oz baits.

Oh yea. The zodias have lots of backbone.Hogsticker2 wrote:Thanks. Much appreciated. Does the blank have a fair to decent flex to it under load?cndbasshunter wrote:It's more of a medium fast/fast tip, not xf. Great for jerks and sub 1/2oz baits.

I know the lure ratings are up to 1/2oz on this stick, but do you think it could handle 5/8oz poppers or walkers?

I would look at the M to be safe. You will get better accuracy and control.MediumHeavy wrote:I know the lure ratings are up to 1/2oz on this stick, but do you think it could handle 5/8oz poppers or walkers?

It would mostly be used for weightless plastics and light jigs, but if I'm beating the bank I'd occasionally throw a Pop-max or shower blows.
Re: Shimano Zodias 610 ml
I just picked one up (actually just popped it up FS on another board), and I would say if anything it's underrated. I think 5/8 would do just fine on that rod, there's tip but not as much as you would expect on a ML. Definitely not a "JDM" ML.MediumHeavy wrote:I know the lure ratings are up to 1/2oz on this stick, but do you think it could handle 5/8oz poppers or walkers?

Folks who have this rod, what do you use it for?

I've used it for jerkbaits and small jigs. It will not be too light or fast for you. They have backbone like stated above and really are versatile.

I have mine setup for BFS with my Scorpion and a Yumeya spool but I think the rod might be too much. I don't think it's the best rod for casting my 1/8 oz baits but this is my first setup so I don't have anything to compare it to.
I've thrown the smaller flash pointers on it and it handles it just fine. Great rod for it I feel.

I am by no means a BFS purist, but I think the Zodias ML does not qualify under any definition. I received both the Zodias and the Phenix Maxim 610ML at the same time; they are identical weight (3.87oz on my scale), but the Maxim has a pronounced "JDM taper" for tossing light baits; a true "mod-fast." Very nice tip to that rod, perhaps a bit springy for bottom contact but perfect for small moving baits/senkos.legendaryyaj wrote:I have mine setup for BFS with my Scorpion and a Yumeya spool but I think the rod might be too much. For the life of me I can't understand why major rod companies don't offer a true ML/L casting rod in their lineups. They have every niche of power/lengths represented for every technique imaginable, but no real USDM option for finesse casters. Just take one of their spinning blanks and slap the correct guides/reel seat on for a start. Shimano and Daiwa esp, having all these 50 sized reels in their lineup but no rods to match...really leaves me scratching my head.

Agreed. I just purchased the rod to try it out since I didn't have a ML casting rod. Good deal and I was curious.reason162 wrote:I am by no means a BFS purist, but I think the Zodias ML does not qualify under any definition.
I'm currently shopping for a USDM one but they are hard to find as you mentioned. I stumbled across the Kistler Helium 3 series and they have a 7' ML rod that piques my interest though.

Just noticed the actions don't seem to be listed for these sticks. Thoughts on the actions? From all of the talk on the forums I think I'd guess more mod-fast than fast?
