Where do you live? I live in the north and a 7'6" Tatula flipping rod is plenty strong enough. Super light, balanced and good backbone. Tip is soft enough to pitch a variety of weights. Its not too expensive either. I am impressed every time I pick it up.

Ccass, I agree. I've leaned on these rods so hard I literally thought I would explode them. Very tough, with a bit of tip and not too fast of a taper IMO. I lob 1.5oz tungsten with them hours on end. What an awesome Rod. I sometimes have thought an ever so slightly more moderate action would be beneficial when the fish are being unaggrssive.ccass wrote:Where do you live? I actually just received a brand new G. Loomis IMX 954 FPR to be my punch rod and I think it's awesome! It is perfectly balanced with a Core 100MGFV, light, sensitive, and it's a beast. Couldn't be happier, not sure where the negativity regarding the new IMX comes from.

The ACS seat is very polarizing. I love it myself, but there's a good many who don't.DChiWildcats wrote:I actually just received a brand new G. Re: Punching Rod
I use the Dobyns DX795. The Champion 766 was the rod I used before switching over to the DX795. The 766 is still my secondary punching stick.
The reason I like the DX795 over the 766 is because it has a more parabolic bend. I only use braid punching. Depending on the line brand, I'll either use 65lb or 80lb. I use the 65lb only because some brands don't seem to be offered in 80lb. With the DX795, I feel the really light subtle bites better. While I'm sure we'd all love punching to be only about the crushing bites, I find it sometimes slows down. They're still there, if you change up your presentation and/or technique. The slower action means I don't damage the fish as much. I feel I can keep the rod loaded more easily in the rare cases I need to go in & grab them out of the slop. While not quite as powerful as the 766 or 805Flip/Punch, the DX795 feels 'right' in my hands.

Re: Punching Rod
Agree with civic and the DX795 it's a great all around rod and if you need a shorter version the 746 is a sweet pitching stick
Re: Punching Rod
I use two, the DX795, and the red Powell Punching rod.
