I'm looking for one of each. Don't care about the other techniques the rods can cover. Looking for two rods perfect for these techniques.

Swim Jig: Megabass Evoluzion Super Diablo II
Lipless: Megabass Racing Condition F5-72XRC
Both seem to be designed specifically for those techniques.

For 3/8oz swim jigs I love the C40 Elseil.
For 1/2oz swim jigs I love St. Croix's LTB 71MHXF.
Both of these sticks are a joy to fish these baits with...absolutely adore them.

Re: What swim jig and lipless crank rod do u use and why?
My search for the perfect swim jig rod took 5 years and finally going custom. For me I like a 4 power rod with a fast or even slower tip, powerful mid and butt section, full cork and light. The only thing that came close was a GLX 855 BCR and a Dobyns DX744.
As for lipless, I ended up settling on the Dobyns Fury 705CB. I really didn't need an expensive rod for that technique. It's powerful, plenty of tip and sensitive enough for cranking. I also like that it's not a buggy whip so I can rip them out of grass very well. If I decided to run them more, I'll probably upgrade to the Champion 705CB. Fit and finish are much nicer and it has more sensitivity.

It might help to know what size jigs and traps, also budget.
I like my Kistler H3 7'-1" MHXF for 3/8oz swim jigs. Has power and enough tip to make accurate casts.
For lipless I like either the Kistler H3 LMHXF in 7'-0", or a composite rod in the same length. Depends on how deep your fishing them and how much grass is involved.

I like a Dobyns Champion 733, for 1/4 - 3/8 light wire jigs and a Champion 734, for 3/8 - 1/2 jig with a beefier hook.

The EMTF makes a good swimjig rod among other things.

I second the EMTF and would also bring the DSR of the same series to the table. Swim jigs on the EMTF and lipless on the DSR.

Re: What swim jig and lipless crank rod do u use and why?
I have the Extreme Mission and found it to handle 1/4oz SwimJigs with a Keitch Swing Impct Fat 3.8" really well. I was surprised as I bought it for unweighted 6" Senkos but found it terrible at casting this bait.
I noticed that Brett Hite uses the Evergreen Super Stallion for 1/4oz SwimJigs. This comes as a surprise because I thought this rod excelled at deep water 1/2oz Jigs and heavy cover 3/4oz jigs. I've got one coming so I will let you know
As for lipless cranks then I was hoping to use my Diablo Fast Move.

Swim jig - MB X4 Destruction and 50lb braid
Lipless - Dobyns Champion 705 Glass and 17lb Defier Armillo

Swim Jig: Dobyns Champion 734FH. I want a rod with ample tip but also want it to lock up pretty quick. The rod is balanced for tip down or if I want the tip above the plane of the surface for a twitching retrieve. I throw my swim jigs on braid, no leader.
Lipless: I switch between two rods, a Dobyns Champion 705CB for moderate grass and normal casting distances. Great tip but sufficient power to rip the baits free of grass. I will utilize my Champion 764CB RM when fishing large flats early in the spring for smallmouth. Length for long casts, good hook sets at distance and fish control. My lipless are always tied to flourocarbon from #15 down to #10. That's what works for me.

For swimjigs I am using a 7' MH Steez XT If I want a little more power due to the cover I switch over to the Steez XT 7'1"H.
For lipless baits I'm using the 7' M Steez XT. Line size will very depending on cover/structure.

Any other Megabass or Evergreen suggestions than the DSR for lipless baits

Yeh, the Flat Side Special does lipless well.
Re: What swim jig and lipless crank rod do u use and why?
x2. Also seems to do 1/8 or 1/4 oz swim jigs alright if you use braid. Doesn't seem to rip grass well but I suppose you can't have it all.metanium wrote:Jdmbassman wrote:Any other Megabass or Evergreen suggestions than the DSR for lipless baits
