Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
I am torn between the two. I know Dobyn's has the reputation, and 13 Fishing is trying to build one. I heard 13 has outstanding customer service. I hope to get a non biased feedback, from avid fisherman that have used both. I have yet to purchase or use either one, though want to pair a 7' MH or M Fast action rod w/ Lews Tournament Lite reel, weighs 5.7 oz. Thanks!

I have two Fury rods on the way. I'll post my impressions of them as soon as I get them in. I got the 733c and the 735c. I've never used a 13 fishing rod, so I won't be able to compare. But I do have Lew's Lite reels as well. So I'll throw one of those on the Furys and see what it feels like.

My $0.02... I have not fished with either rod, but I have fished extensively with a Dobyns Savvy (as well as 2 DX's), and extensively with the Omen Black (Gen 1 rods - I own 3).
In my opinion, the 13 fishing rods blow the Dobyns Savvy series out of the water. I can't speak to the Fury, but, assuming price is directly related to performance within the same brand, I can say that the 13 Fishing Omen Black rods would outperform the Dobyns Fury line.
I find the actions on the 13 Fishing rods to be more widely applicable to different techniques, whereas my Savvy feels dead as a doornail and is now only used for frogs where sensitivity is not a main requirement IMO.

I wouldn't compare the fury to the savvy without fishing one. I don't know what the differences in the blanks are, but fury feels much more crisp, and actually feels more sensitive. Might just be me, but I wouldn't knock them without trying.

I like my 735 Fury way more than my 7'1" Omen mh. Fury feels better in the hand and is as sensitive as the Omen.
Re: Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
thanks for the feed back guys - I just purchased the OMEN 2 in a 7'1" MH F - I still plan on picking up the fury at some point - it's just one of those things to where I have to give them both a chance, at the price point. thanks again!

Re: Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
My 733 and 735 Furys came in yesterday and while I can't say that I've had them on the water and really put them through the paces yet, I can say that my initial impressions are that these rods are a steal at the price point. The 735 feels like it will be great for my heavy duty work and the 733 really feels awesome. It's very well balanced and I don't know the exact weight, but it feels great in hand with a Lews Lite mounted on it. I was getting great distance test casting a 1/4 oz spinnerbait. The tip on the rod is fantastic for a roll cast. Also, I just really love the way these rods look. I can't wait to get them out on the water and give them a full workout, but for now, I'm very happy with them.
Good luck with your Omen rod, let us know how it works out!

so guys..I am really pleased with Omen 2 rod in the 7'1" MH Fast - fist trip out with it I nailed two 3lb smallies on a zeko rig - it has great back bone - I had to muscle one over a tree that was submerged under water. I think I will get one more of these rods in a 7'6" for flipping. It compares to a loomis GL2 IMO with sensitivity/backbone.

so guys - I pulled the trigger on the fury..I must say I give it a slight edge on the omen 2 casting rods. I like the reel seat, split grip, and smaller diameter blank. thanks for all help, think I will go with Dobyns in the future.

What model did you end up going with? I got my two Furys out on the water Saturday for a few hours, posted some of my impressions in the below thread..Akir90 wrote:so guys - I pulled the trigger on the fury..I must say I give it a slight edge on the omen 2 casting rods. Re: Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
In all honesty, I didn't have very high hopes for the Fury series, primarily due to my disappointment
with the Savvy series... but after fishing the Fury for a couple months, I am seriously impressed
with the value of the rod. I think I have used the Fury 705CB more than any other rod recently...
I absolutely love it. The 734 is an awesome all purpose stick.
The cork on my omen 2 is a bit better than on the fury (granted, there isn't much cork on the fury
to compare with...), but overall balance, sensitivity, and fuji reel seats make the dobyns really
hard to beat.

Re: Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
I haven't fished the gen 2 Omens but I do have two gen 1 Omens. One is 7'1 medium and the other is 7'1 medium heavy. I also received a 733c Fury for an early Christmas present and have used it 3-4 trips so far. I've fished 3/8 jigs with all 3 paired up with Daiwa Tatula type r reels. For me, the Fury has a much more comfortable grip but the gen 2 Omens with the full cork grip would be nice. The grip with the gen 1 Omens is really my only complaint. The Dobyns has a lot more tip and is far easier to skip a jig with than the Omen, just my opinion. The Omen has more power and more sensitivity, again my opinion. I don't think you can go wrong with either rod. Even though the Omen is more sensitive I find myself picking up the Dobyns more often. However, if I had the gen 2 Omen things may be different. Kind of a wishy washy review I guess but I enjoy both.
