13 Fishing Rods
How is the power on these rods compare to their rating? Are they weaker/stronger, faster/more moderate? Deciding between a Medium or MH Archangel. I know the MH is X-fast and the M is Fast but what difference should I see between the 2 beyond the ratings.

Re: 13 Fishing Rods
I guess another way to put it is St Croix and Abu Garcia. Both companies tend to have rods that are more powerful than their ratings say. A Medium tends to fish similar to a Medium Heavy from other companies. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something that goes into picking between a M and MH.ccass wrote:How is the power on these rods compare to their rating? Re: 13 Fishing Rods
Judging from the post, I assume you are deciding between the AAC611M and the AAC72MH....you will find that the actions are pretty true to their ratings. The power will greatly increase in the longer rod(meaning the power coming from the center 1/3 of the rod will increase), and this is why the MH has the extra fast rating. The overall weight of the 6'11" rod is 4.5oz, and the overall weight of the 7'2" MH is 5oz.
Hope this helps. If you want more advice.....I recommend telling us exactly what techniques you are trying to match the rod for, and we can offer advice.

Re: 13 Fishing Rods
Matt, of those 2,which is I the better pitching Rod for 1/4-1/2 oz baits, jigs and plastics? Or is there the perfect pitching Rod in the Omen Black 2 full handle series.
Re: 13 Fishing Rods
The 6'11" Archangel is perfect for the 1/4-1/2oz baits you suggest, I HIGHLY recommend this rod. If you are fishing a lot of structure you may want to jump to the MH to utilize the extra backbone. This would be a situational decision on what rod would work best for you.
In the Omen Black Series I would recommend the 7'1"MH.

Re: 13 Fishing Rods
Those are some pretty heavy rods for that price. They must balance really well being that heavy and having a full grip.
Re: 13 Fishing Rods
i have used that 611M Archangel a fair bit in Australia. It is easily the most comfortable and well balanced stick i've ever used. Comparing it to all the high end rods i've ever used. Evergreens, Megabass, Zenaq etc
Re: 13 Fishing Rods
Tonite I scored an Omen Black 2 M/H 7'3" for $74 shipped! I'll get to see how well it pitches jigs!!
And if I'm not satisfied I'll simply use it for a FROG rod. Can't lose!
I sold my Gen 1 Omen because although it was a very sensitive rod, the cork grip was simply too short for MY hand.
Others apparently did not have that problem but many did.
Giving them a second go.
I'll report in a couple of weeks.

Re: 13 Fishing Rods
I only have experience with the Omen series from 13 Fishing. They seem to fish about 1/2 power heavier than the rating, just my opinion. I can fish a 3/8 jig on the medium power 7'1 rod with confidence. Medium heavy in the same length has even more backbone. Similar to St. Croix in their power ratings. Just my two cents.
Re: 13 Fishing Rods
I own an envy n feel the ratings r spot on. Tip is softer than most rods making u think its a weak rod but once u set the hook, power will kick in

I fish the 6'7 MH Omen Black (sweet stick btw) and it fishes pretty close to what I'd expect on a MH stick. Very soft tip though, it'll load up on a weightless senko very well.

I pulled the trigger on the 7'2" Archangel. I won't be able to fish with it till spring, but will report back once it arrives.

First impressions are very good: superb balance, finish, and feel. Gong to pair it with a new Conquest HG.
