DX703 or DX704?

Post by Lefty3244 » Thu Dec 17, 2015 10:13 am

I plan on using it for 3/8 jigs and skipping docks. Got a 733 Fury for Christmas and like it a lot. This is my first experience with a Dobyns and plan on adding more. Just wondering if the 704 or 744 would be a better option for jigs? I took my Fury out yesterday and it did just fine and I really like the extra tip for skipping under a dock. How much of that tip would I lose with a 4 power rod instead of a 3?

From what I have experienced with dobyns, they have a slightly softer tip section than say a comparable 3 or 4 power loomis rod. If you are using a DX series rod, I would go with the DX704C if skipping 3/8oz jigs. I think the DX703C would be a bit soft but that's just my opinion. You could probably get by with the DX703C but if you run into any moderate or slightly dense cover in your skipping endeavors then the 3 power will not be enough and will be overpowered.

Sounds like a 704 it is. I'm sure the NRX is a more sensitive stick but how will the DX compare to say the GLX or IMX in sensitivity?

What jpmoney said.

I use the 743 for Senkos, 744 for 3/8 oz jigs, and 745 for 1/2 oz jigs.

owned the 703 for a while. More like a finesse jig rod to me or senko rod

go with the 704 As it will have the power and tip for skipping Docks...
I normally use the 745 for my dock skipping as I want the extra power...

How is the sensitivity on the DX? Just want to make sure I'm not going to be left wanting more.

the HPs are killer...IMO better then the previous DXs...I LOVE the previous DXs as Ived used them for years without issues, but the new DXHPs are a step above...

I agree with getting the 704. That would be the perfect rod for that technique and that size jig in my opinion. I'd get the 744 if I was going to be doing more just straight pitching as I prefer a little bit longer rod for that, but the little bit shorter 7'0" will probably help you skip the bait a little better, or it would for me  Good luck! Let us know how you like it!
