Got my new BFS combo today!

Post by KDogg14 » Sat Feb 06, 2016 3:52 am

Thanks to everyones help and input here I ordered a Lengend XL inshore rod and a Daiwa Alphas SV 105! Just got everything today so I had to try it! For now I am impressed. I spooled up with 5 pound fluroclear and I tried a size 1/0 ewg hook with a ultra vibe speed craw tied on with no weight. It casted that no problem. What impressed me the most is I put a razor worm on that hook with no weight as well thinking let's see what happens and all I have to say is wow! Can't wait to use this in actual fishing conditions on the boat as soon as the ice melts. I will post some pics soon! :D

Nice. Have the same rod on an 09 aldebaran with spool. Wait til you see how small of a bait you can cast on the bfs setups. The only thing I would suggest is to routinely maintain the spool area. I usually do the quick dry qtip clean where the spool edges sit and then add one drop of oil on new qtip and rub it around once on both sides. Every 2-3 trips depending on how dirty the water is.

Ok, I have to ask. What does "BFS" stand for?

To the OP, if you get disappointed in the Floroclear like I did, do not be afraid to try Sunline Sniper FC in any of the finesse sizes. It is very easy casting and cheap enough just to try.

I actually changed the flouroclear because I didn't like the way is was coming off the spool. I put 15 pound power pro on it and I love it. I'm going to buy the sniper 7 pound FC and use that as a leader for now. Now I'm tempted to buy another St Croix legend inshore rod and get another reel! Here are some pics and a razor worm that I was throwing on the setup. Having trouble uploading pics can someone please help me.

I am thinking about giving this BFS thing a try. Got a Core50 mg7 with 7.7 gears and a avail spool. What is the model number of this rod you speak of, looks to be St Croix, but cant seem to find it in my new 2016 St Croix catalog. Thanks.

It's on the St Croix site, go to shopping then rods. It's under the legend inshore gulf coast rods. It's not a new 2016 model but a discontinued model. Here's the link… http://stcroixrods.com/shop/rods/
