Suggestions for a travel rod
Suggestions for a travel rod
I travel a good bit during the year, and I'm looking for one good multi-piece (2 piece is fine) rod that can handle smaller pond style fishing. Im having a helluva time picking one. I don't want to break the bank but I want something well built, durable, and versatile. Will be pairing it with a Chronarch 50e. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

TT did a good review of Daiwa travel rod that was a 3 piece.

Check out the 4 piece Majorcraft Go Emotion. Some other rods they have are 6 feet, and will break down to 3'.
The Arditos are a good value.
I am currently having 4 travel customs built. All are 3-piece, consisting of St Croix, MHX, and Rainshadow blanks.
What action and power are you looking for?

if you think you will be using it a lot and don't mind the investment, the G. Loomis Escape 3 piece travel rods are excellent. they come with a rod bag and pvc rod tube which is pretty much indestructible. I have the 7 foot med power fast action spinning model and I really like it a lot.

Re: Suggestions for a travel rod
I have a Majorcraft Volkey 6'8" 2-pc. light BFS rod and it is a blast to fish with in the ponds that I frequent. I fish t-rigs with 1/8 oz weights and 4" senkos and I have no problem with the hookset. I do use 15/4 braid, sometimes with a mono leader. It has good backbone, but will also confidently fish 1/4 oz spinnerbaits, a #5 shallow Shad Rap and a 7/16 oz Jackall Bling 55 squarebill. I landed a 6# fish this past Saturday with no problem. A more cost-effective offering would be the Daiwa Blazon 68 ML 2-pc. stick, which I also enjoy, though it isn't as sensitive as the Volkey.

I second the Omen Black 2 piece recommendation. It's a great rod (MH Fast action, it'll throw everything except finesse) and I haven't noticed any lack of sensitivity or balance problems. It's tough too.

G Loomis escape is top of the line and they even offer them in a GLX blank. A bit pricey but very nice!

Ardito, all the way. Like others have said, you'd never know it wasn't a one piece. I have the 7' med heavy and love using it. The case it comes with is really nice amd durable. It's more of a heavy and fishes on the extra side of fast. Perfect for 1/2 oz jigs. I like it for spinnerbaits and squarebills, too. It balances perfectly with a tatula or zillion tws. A steal at less than $100.
