There are crank bait models with a deeper flex than the standard series, but none of those are powerful enough to handle mag cranks. My favorite mag crank rod from the series is the Swim Bait rod. It handles them very nicely, though not a fully parabolic glass type action rod.E73Bass wrote:Gary, any Hammer recommendation for throwing the MAGNUM extra deep cranks like the 10XD and the LC SKT 120 DEEP. Something with a Glass type parabolic action. ?

I use my Quatum Smoke frog rod, 7'4" heavy XF, for everything from 1/2oz frogs, to 1 1/2 oz whopper ploppers, to big crankbaits and lunker punkers, and it handles them all really well.
TW has them now for $139.

Re: Rod for 1/2oz - 1 1/2oz topwater?
Alright guys I'm reviving this one from the dead! I've been combing through a lot of old posts looking for some good options for the exact baits mentioned here, Showerblows 150, Buzzjet, Nineshine 110F, all between 1 and 1.5oz. topwaters. Last year I was using the irod Genesis stone cold spook and trap rod and it honestly did a great job with the Showerblows even in the 150 size. However It's such a great all around rod I'm looking for a stand in that might handle the 1.5oz range a tad better during the cast. For these types of baits I'm a fan of 7'-7'3" rods and will be throwing on 40lb braid. I have had a few Dobyns Fury's and I like them but they are always a tad light on power. Hoping someone can point me in the direction of a sub $200 rod that would be a good fit, or I might just buy another irod...

Evergreen Direwolf if you have unlimited funds. Sorry didn't see the $200 price point.

A little on the pricey side, but the Megabass Destroyer Killer Code is my preferred top water rod. 6'6", heavy regular taper, rated 3/8 to 2 oz, I've fished the 77.7 shower blow up to full sized walking baits with it. Plenty of tip for casting the lighter baits but enough backbone it doesn't ever feel over powered. I tied on a megadog just to see how it handled it. It was over powered feeling but was still able to work the bait just fine, granted that bait is outside of its power rating. I think it would also be a good rod for smaller glides in the 1.75 and under weight.

I use my 72H Hyuga for those baits but dont like walking baits with it given how heavy it is. It's my .75 to 2.5 oz bait rod that can do 3oz in a pinch. I've been eyeing the Legit Designs 72H+ as a potential replacement if something happens to the Hyuga or if I just wanted another similar stick. It might be too much rod though and is over budget.

I grabbed the wrong rod and it was the PA 7'4" H rod. I didn't noticed it at all, until I put a 3/4 oz. popper on it. Live Target Mullet popper. It worked out great and wonderful. I also ended up tossing my typical 1/4 oz. poppers on the rod as well. Everything worked out so well, I really didn't feel as if I was using a H powered rod. I didn't catch any fish because it was still spring time. Inline spinners and jerkbaits were the fish catching lures.
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish

I've got a Fitzgerald 6'9 Bryan Thrift Skipping Special I use for big topwaters.
