Question for Major Craft Speedstyle 68L BFS rod owners

Post by ibobpeb » Tue Mar 22, 2016 11:34 am

The rating says 1/16-1/4 oz, I was wondering if it's capable of loading up to 3/8 oz lures or is that too heavy for this rod? I intend to mostly throw 1/8 oz darter jigheads with 2" flukes/grubs and occasionally throw 3/8 oz hard baits (shallow cranks) in a pinch. Will this rod do it or nah?

I haven't used that heavy on mine yet, but I think that would be pushing it and just feel awkward.

I throw spinbait 80's just fine on my volkey 68L. They're closer to a third of an ounce, but it's only a gram less. I also throw 1/4 oz cranks just fine on it, not to mention 1/16-1/8 shakey heads with 6" Roboworms and flick shake rigs.

I can't get it to cast 1/16, either. I think 1/8th is the more reasonable lower bound.
