I know it was designed and released in the 2016 Champion series...

I can't speak to that specific rod, but I've been using the DX784c in that capacity for the past couple years, and it's pretty much perfect.

It is correctly named the XP 744C...I liked the previous Champion 744C but wished it was a tad faster blank...well boys, I just talked to Dobyns and ordered one! Hope to post a report in a week or so! \:D/

Big Tom - I know you already ordered a rod, however I have to agree with Randingo. . . the DX784C HP is a outstanding rod for the techniques you mentioned.

Interesting. I was under the impression that the blank itself was the same.

So what is the consensus on this one? Looking for a football jig and 10" worm rod myself. Can't store rods over 7'6"

I had the old champion 734 & The old dx 744. I think the champion series is better for moving baits. I just got the new dx hp 742c, the new dx models are bomb! If I didn't already have nrx rods, I'd go with the new hp series. So my suggestion would be get the new hp 744c instead of the champion series, you'll be way more happier

added in edit: So....I was definitely wrong on the above info. I'm pretty there are other threads about the Champion DC 744 now but just in case.....

The new Champion XP blanks are the same as the previous generation Champion blanks. That part was true but.........

The Champion DC 744C is a completely new model. As I understand it, it was designed with a faster action than the Champion XP 734C. When I called a while ago, Gary told me to think more of a 735 action in a 4-power rod. Jig rod special is one of the listed 'techniques' Dobyns list for the rod.

I hope to pick one up in the near future to fish.

I went back and took a closer look at the Champion DC 744C, and even though I prefer the Extreme HP series for the techniques mentioned, the DC 744C might just be the rod for your storage limitations.
