Casting Rods... What will you spend?
Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
Depends on the techniques. If i do one technique more than another that will be a big thing to think about

Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
My most expensive rod i own is a spinning rod i had s o convert to a bfs casting rod.
The rod itself was 500 $ then i had a rod builder strip it measure it again to get the best result for its bending action.
strip and re-design the entire handle so it blends in with the other casting rods of that line up. Putting new microguides on it cost me another 380$
but it was worth it and it casts lighter than i expected.

I have spent as little as 200 and as much as 650 for rods so basically I buy what I can afford for what i need
Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
Hey fish junkies and bait monkeys a like. New to the site and I would like to weight in on this topic. I am a sucka for the daiwa tatula series of rods having elites and regular. I also have a JDM Zillion flipping. I am not saying I wouldn't spend more for a rod I just found what I prefer.
I did how ever just placed an order for a new drop shot rod from megabass and if I like it as much as everyone seems to like them I may be switching my daiwa rods over

Truth be told you can do the same thing with a 300.00 combo as a 1000.00 + combo, the investment wont make you a better fisherman. That being said in most cases the higher end gear will have better feel in hand and better transmission of what is going on at the end of your line. Comfort , balance, and performance is what you are going to get for your investment not to mention a much much visually appealing setup.

Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
I have spent up to $700 on a rod a few times. I buy what I think I need. Not necessarily what I can get by with. Fishing to me is about enjoyment and I get more enjoyment out of top of the line gear. If I don't catch any fish I can't blame my gear!
Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
I will spend up to $500 on a reel but just cant go over $150 for a rod with so many great rods out there for less. More power for those who do

Most expensive production rod I paid for was $575 (discounted price) and was extremely disappointed in the rods performance. As a winter time hobby, I started building rods for myself and as gifts for friends and family. I won't look back. For $250 to $300, I can build everything I want in a rod.
Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
Like a lot, I started with inexpensive rods, then migrated to the mid $500 range. Do I catch more fish? Prolly not. Do I enjoy it more? Definitely, as I can fish longer (due to lighter weight) and I can tell a distinct difference in how these rods fish compared to less expensive ones. For example, throwing the same lure, with the same line on my current rod vs. my son's rods (hand me down but hey, he's 12 and at 12 I didn't have anything as nice) there is a difference (shhh) on sensitivity, how it casts, etc. etc.

Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
$500 max. And warranty matters
Re: Casting Rods... What will you spend?
$150 is a nice spot but I will go up to $250-350 if the specs (length, power, action, weight, looks) are right. I haven't bought a sub-$100 rod yet but that's because I wanted to start with a "decent" setup, and I've only gone up from there. I could see myself spending $400-500 on a bottom contact rod at some point when I have a boat and can actually use it effectively, but until then, my ~$250avg rods (Expride, Helium3) are good enough for me, and I really enjoy using them.
