At the moment, I'll spend up to $300 on a rod. Plenty of good offerings in the $200-$300 range. Although I would like to see what all the hype is with the higher end Megabass rods! Maybe some day... [-o<

I'll pay the $400 for St. Croix Legend Elites (have 3), but that's my ceiling.

I've been all over the board when it comes to buying rods.

I'm a total rod and reel junkie with no wallet to support it so I slowly accrue gear over time. I'm planning on getting one or two combos a year with this year being a MB carbon head rod and a Steez so far. Thinking of picking up the new St Croix Legend Extreme sometime before summer because I love AGS rods and carbon fiber.

Not a cork guy :b

I feel most comfortable in 250-300 range but if there is something more expensive I really want and I can afford it I will get it.

$375 is the most expensive rod i own, and that is a 7'1 mh steez ags that i bought used. i'd like to have the h version of it, but i have the steez xt that has worked great for me. i got the 7'1 h and 7'4 xh xt's off of ebay for $265 shipped, and they still had the tags on them.

i was out of fishing for a few years due to finances, and when i could get back into it i decided i wasn't going to spend the money of high end stuff. i wish i have just went ahead and got what i wanted though, because i ended up with rods hanging on the wall that i can't really do anything with. shipping rods is so expensive that it's hard to sell them online.

Started off with a Dobyns Xtasy 754C, then found out I don't like long rods. So I went with a Conquest 844C. Now I am in the process of ordering a Megabass ARMS SuperLeggera 7005X

TBH, it just depends on the job of the rod. For a great jig rod I'll pay $450+, but for topwater/a-rig/chatterbait type rods, I'm keeping it below that $250-270 mark as much as possible.

My jig/t-rig rods have all recently been updated: 6'9 Steez AGS Target Sniper, 7'3 Steez AGS Utility Player, MB P5 X-bites.
But my topwater/chatterbait/etc rods remain as Exprides, Dobyns Champs, etc...

All my rods though are only bought at a discount... which helps when purchasing higher end rods.

5 years later, now I find myself spending upwards another $100 per rod. So that's putting my ceiling upwards into the $450. That's still in the same target performance of what I was getting at $350.

I NEVER pay MSRP so I usually spend around $300-350 and get really nice rods for that money.

I paid about $500 for a rod about 15 years ago. I tried to like it, but I never really liked it. OTOH, I bought a $150 topwater rod in the late 90s. I liked it so much that I bought two more. I still use them. So, the price of the rod isn't very important to me. I haver to go through many rods to find my favorites, though. So, in a way, that's pretty expensive.
