NRX refresh ?

Post by PBP » Wed Dec 28, 2016 3:39 am

This line was not updated for long time, does anyone know if G Loomis planning to refresh it this coming year?

They just did the GLX this year so I would say a year or two is a good bet. Thats just my .02.

Praying for non recoil guides and a more balanced rod!!! Finger crossed! It would easily make me go full next lineup

a good refresh would be full cork rods.

a more likely refresh, knowing shimano, will be to add eva foam crap to their handles, and continue with split grip, to help the balance.

I can't wait! If I had a say into what Gloomis I would hope they move to torzite like the K2 and St Croix LE. (A lot of people will disagree with this upcoming statement but oh well..) I pray that Gloomis removes all cork and uses a proprietary handle like Zbones. I can't stand cork. I have tried everything to keep into pristine by using U-40 and cleaning with a magic eraser every once in a while. While it helps the cork seems to lose it's original finish.

My only concern with the comments made by SteveSchmelzle is by adding a full handle grip you are you adding more weight and requiring Gloomis to have to finish the blank to add the rod specs because the full grip wont provide the split grip area thus dampening the sensitivity. Kistler has done a good job of using a raw blank by NFC, which provides a awesome look, extremely lightweight, and enhanced feel. Then in between the split grip adding a finish and rod specs.

Rod companies IMO are stuck in a pickle the older guys mostly prefer big full handle cork grips, whereas MOST of the new generation prefer split grips and winn grips, eva, etc. Tough situation for them to be in. I'm glad I dont have to make the decision.

I'll have to wait to see what I would change. I have my first NRX on the way. 853c jwr. Got an amazing deal on one that I couldn't pass up. I hope this doesn't ruin me...

If the blanks don't change I'll just keep what I have.

Hey, that is a fair point.

Some of us, especially most the anglers around here (ONtario) don't worry about using cleaners and magic eraser stuff...

I own 50+ rods, and 10+ NRX rods....i've never cleaned a cork in my life.

But I don't buy rods and reels to resell...i buy them to use.

There is a divide in that some folks buy high end tackle to use and others buy high end tackle to look at, sit on, then resell.

That makes it tough for manufacturers....because those are two very different markets, both willing to spend big money.

I understand that. I personally don't think Gloomis can make a wrong move because no matter what they do the NRX is the gold standard.

Buy two of everything. One to use and abuse, the other to put on the shelf. The customers win, the manufacturers win, everybody wins! :)
