New GLX 853s vs 893s JWR

Post by thatvoodoothatyoudo » Tue May 23, 2017 5:48 am

Looking at these two rods - is the 893s basically the same , just with added inches in the butt? I would like a longer rod than my current nrx 803s , as I typically stand close to the bow and snap jig for walleye, as well as cast 1/4 >3/8 jigs w/ 4 & 5" Keitech swimbaits. The nrx is great, but I could really use the extra length and thought the new GLX line be a close substitution. I like a XF action and commonly catch 5> 10# fish with bonus pike up to 25 # , so no lightweight rods need apply.
How would the balance of the 893 vs the 853 be? Is the 893 more tip heavy than the 853?
Anyone have any experience with these new 2017 GLX (S) JWR rods?
Thanks
JBP

I love my GLX 892 paired with Metanium MG. Had the 893 didn't care for that particular blank on that model. I easily throw 3/8oz jig/tube with my 892, also works great with blade baits and smaller paddle tail swimbaits.

Sorry my bad didn't notice your talking about spinning.

There are very few GLX 893s JWR in distribution presently, they are about to become available, it's one I'm excited to get my hands on actually. The blank on the 893s JWR is unique in that it isn't the same as it's casting counterpart. Hopefully, The Tackle Trap will have them in the next week or two, at least that's the plan :D

Thanks bronze fly,
I really like the action/ power of the nrx 803s JWR but am hoping the new GLX 893s will perform as well with the larger ( 5") trailers that I use and the need for more length. Please let me know your opinion when you receive that rod.
Best regards,
JBP
