Dobyns DC 704CB for top water and jerkbaits
Dobyns DC 704CB for top water and jerkbaits
I am currently using a 7 medium power rod (ALX Dream) for throwing Megabass PopMax, Sammies, Gunfish, and moving baits. It works well, but I am wondering if a Dobyns DC 704CB or a similar rod from another manufacturer would be better suited for these techniques. I will also throw Vision 110's on this rod.
Re: Dobyns DC 704CB for top water and jerkbaits
I use the 704CB for poppers (1/4 - 3/8), smaller walking baits (Gunfish 95) & jerkbaits (Pointer 78 & 100, Flashpointer 115, etc). While I use it for a fairly wide range of baits, I'd say the sweet spot is 3/8oz to 1/2oz. This is the range where the rod feels like it really loads up on the cast & isn't working too hard retrieving the baits.
On the jerkbaits, I will fish a heavier bait or one that works the rod more because I don't want to overwork the bait (in the water). For example, with a jerkbait that weighs in at 5/8oz, I feel I cast it better with the 705CB but I feel that I get better results fishing it with the 704CB.
