Orochi XX Casting Rod 7'2" Diablo Spec R

Post by Rodster14 » Mon Aug 14, 2017 2:59 am

Does anybody have experience with these? If so, I was wondering if this would be a good hollow bodied frog/Carolina rig rod?

The spec r is more of a med heavy and imo closer to a mod fast action. It works well for 3/8 trigs, and is a very nice chatterbait, swim jig, spinnerbait rod. I would not recommend it for frogs or crigs. For those i would look at the Perfect Pitch. Its more of a true heavy action, still some tip so can walk a frog very easily. I used mine for 1/2oz jigs mostly, but did use it for frogs a bit as well as 3/4oz football jigs which it as very good with.

Definitely not a frog rod. Agreed on the PP, that is a fantastic stick! The tour versatile would also work.

For frogging, I'd be worried about consistently driving the hooks home and moving fish out of the cabbage with the DSR. Hell of a stick, very nice with single hook moving baits and texas rigs though..

As others have said it's one awesome rod, but not the right rod for your use case. You would want to be looking at the Tour Versatile or the Perfect Pitch in that line up. But the DSR is one my absolute favorite rods.

agreed that its not the right choice for frogs.

i use mine for heavier lipless, buzzbaits, chatterbaits, soft paddletails, whopper ploppers mostly.

Open water frogging or buzzfrogs it is great for but true frogging I would have to choose the Perfect Pitch easily.

I'll also add that I felt the tour versatile and perfect pitch were too similar to each other. I sold off the TV and kept the PP because to me it had a nicer tip to it. For me the 3 must have casting rods in that rod series are... diablo spec r - spinnerbait special - perfect pitch, the emtf can be swapped in place of the spinnerbait special. I just prefer the shorter rod in this case.
