Rods without a hook keeper

Post by Rodster14 » Mon Aug 21, 2017 4:21 am

Is it a problem to have a rod without a hook keeper? I don't really want to get a Fuji or other add on hook keeper.

My Zodias and Expride don't have hook keepers and it is rather annoying, but other than that I really like both of those rods. I make do by hooking onto my reel.

i use the hook keeper all the time. I would not buy a rod without one. yes, you can use your guides/reel etc. but really, all manufacturers should be including these on all rods. esp. at the mid to higher end price points.

You can always have one installed. any tackle shop that wraps rods can it. just pick the style of hook keeper you prefer. its really inexpensive.

I've yet to use or see a wrapped keeper that performs better than Fuji's. You can place it anywhere along the rod, rotate to any side, it holds your jig/lure off the blank, and the plastic won't ding up your sticky sharp hook points.

It can get pretty annoying to use a rod without a hook keeper. I can't remember the last time I've fished a rod without one.

I've owned rods without hook keepers. I've used the Fuji, reel or zipties - they all bugged me.

I like the Fuji hook keepers a lot, I use them on my GLX rods too since that hook keeper is so tough to use.

How sturdy are they? Do they slip or the bands break very easy?

There is no way someone looks at a rod with a plastic hook keep, be it zip tie or Fuji, and says " that screams quality and aesthetic beauty."
There are some really nice flip out , Fuji and other brand, hook keeps that can be custom wrapped wherever your heart desires on the rod and it won't look like it was picked up at Sanford and Son's.

Never had one slip or break a band, I've used them for 2 years now.

Thank you. I may give one a shot and see how it works for me.
