Need a good rod for Pointer 128s
Hey guys,
Looking for a rod that can handle and fish a Pointer 128 or jerkbaits it’s size well. Not many jerkbait rods made for baits one ounce or above. Price is no object. If the mods can chime in especially, since an article just got posted about the baits.
Thanks in Advance!

Try the new Megabass destroyer oneten stick F4.5-611X. Awesome jerkbait rod that can handle the pointer 128. I have used mine all season and have been very impressed with it’s performance. Perfect rod IMO for the jerkbait 1/2oz to 3/4.

Thanks! Have you used the Pointer 128 with it?jpmoney wrote:Try the new Megabass destroyer oneten stick F4.5-611X. Awesome jerkbait rod that can handle the pointer 128. I have used mine all season and have been very impressed with it’s performance. Perfect rod IMO for the jerkbait 1/2oz to 3/4.

I like longer rods for jerk baits. Mainly because with shorter stick i tend to overcast them and they'll tumble if not timed right.Darth Baiter wrote:Hey guys,

I find i can get more distance with less effort and let the longer casting stroke due to the rod make up for any lack of concentration when trying to rip one out there.
I've mentioned the 8' steez ags as a great all around rod that can do a ton of different things very well.
It has the ability to throw a rediculously wide range of weights. I even used little JDM shimano cardiff touga 67's with it for wild trout and it kept the hooks pinned beautifully.
I don't throw really big jerkbaits in freshwater much. But I do throw heavy stuff for distance in the ounce and ounce and a quarter range.
You can really let it rip with an ounce. Which is strange considering how well it will actually "throw" an 1/8.
It's rating is accurate and can handle an ounce and a half without issues.

Pricey......but damn is it worth every penny which I can't say about too many of the luxury rods out there.

Sure,it's depend of length of rod what you like to use...I have Loomis 785 IMX(6'6") and Shaula 17113 (7'11"),and both handle lures even biggest then Pointer 128s.
Re: Need a good rod for Pointer 128s
I haven’t used the pointer 128, however i have used the slender pointer 128 (3/4oz) and the flash pointer 130 (7/8oz). It can handle the flash pointer 130 just fine but i think this is the heaviest i would go on that rod. This rod has a fairly short handle which i really like for jerkbaiting.Darth Baiter wrote:Thanks! Re: Need a good rod for Pointer 128s
I fish pointer 128's on a st croix legend extreme MHM when using braid and a leader. I also fish the 128's on a kistler z bone LEXF 3 MH XF with tatsu fluoro. The 7'8" croix is rated up to 1 oz and handles 128's with ease. The z bone is only rated up to 3/4 ounce but it too handles the 128 fine. I also have a Matt's custom built on the same st croix blank for jerk baits used with braid.

I would say something in the megabass family. I have a evo 68 xti f5.5 it's oh so sweet for 1/2oz jerkbaits.
Re: Need a good rod for Pointer 128s
I own an f6 69 super destroyer 3/8-1 1/4oz, mod- fast, I mainly use it for Texas rigging and jigs. I could see it doing real well with a heavier jerkbait. I'm pretty sure the tackle trap has the carbon head in stock.

Tackle trap has the Megabass orochi xx Flat side special on sale for 185.00. Another stick to consider!

MBR 843 works great for me.

I prefer the megabass orochi xx flat side special for bigger jerkbaits like the pointer 128s
