Kistler He3 MHXF

Post by Poisson » Thu Dec 28, 2017 11:01 am

Looking for some feedback on either the 7'1" or 7'4" MHXF Helium 3:

1. In terms of lure weight, what's the sweet spot for this rod? Can it comfortably handle 3/8 - 1/2 oz jigs + trailer?

2. How versatile is the rod? Is it too fast for single hook moving baits?

Don't own either model but know a guy who does. His indication to me was that the 7'4 was pretty stout and he used it for plastics and c-rigs. I can ask him but got the impression that 1/2oz is nothing on this rod.

I own the 7'3 xfast Heavy HE3. Super rod, super stout, yet as crazy as it sounds I chatterbait and spinnerbait fish with around heavy cover using braided line.

I used to have the 7’1 MHXF. Really sensitive rod but was a pretty powerful stick. At least for what I wanted to use it for.Really fishes a lot like a 4 power dobyns dx.

Got the 7'1" He3 MHXF on the Kistler Black Friday sale and have been throwing 1/2 oz jigs with no problem. It is noticeably
stouter than the KLX MH 7"0" rods I own. All in all a great rod though and certainly worth the price even without a discount.

I almost picked up a 7'1 HE3 during the holiday sales as well; just could not figure what in my rotation it was going to displace. based on the only HE3 I own, completely agree that the rod is worth the price. Likely best value rod I have ever fished because it is not clear that I'm giving up anything and/or anything significant even compared to my rods retailing at $500.

Thank you all for the feedback! Glad to hear there is some love for the Helium 3, I just got a 7'0" MLF spinning model and I may have to add a MHXF to my lineup, although I am keeping a very close eye on the Gen II Orochi XX thread...

A lot of love from my perspective. I have around 20 Kistler He3 and KLX rods and they are all tremendous values at their price points. Kilter received somewhat of a bad knock years ago on warranty issues which I cannot weigh in on. All I know is I have never had an issue with any of my Kistler rods and I fish several times per week. I still have some of my old Kistler LTAs and have never experienced any problems with a Kistler product. Great company and great products!

I think the move to the nfc blanks was an incredible move by Kistler and it shows in the product.

I picked up the 7'3" light-MH rod during the Black Friday sale. Have only tried it out once but was very impressed with it.

Kistler is running a 20th Anniversary sale right now, and I couldn't resist ordering the He3 7'1" MHXF. Thanks again for the feedback!

It’s a great stick, very versatile and super light. Enjoy it!
