What are You PUNCHING with?
Re: What are You PUNCHING with?
I tried a bunch of punching rods and wasn't convince on any until I tried a Fitzgerald Titan HD. I use the Titan HD THD76H & THD76XH. Very well balanced and sensitive, they are broomsticks but it's what's necessary for Florida mats most of the time. The lighter model I have a 1.5oz tungsten permanently and the heavier model a 2 oz tungsten almost permanently. I prefer shorter rods for punching and 8' rods for flipping under 1oz weights.
I mainly fish Loomis for all my other rods but prefer these for punching.

2oz weight I couldnt imagine using that. 1oz is about the max where I live, 3/4oz being more common. I got mostly lily pads, some milfoil and also the occasional flooded brush.Arethaz wrote:I tried a bunch of punching rods and wasn't convince on any until I tried a Fitzgerald Titan HD. The Megabass Warhammer is awesome for punching!
Re: What are You PUNCHING with?
Dobyns DX795 treats me well
Re: What are You PUNCHING with?
Last year I used the megabass orochi xx gen 1 7’9” and loved it.

NRX 916UBR with Zillion Type R w/upgraded 8.1 gearset and high speed levelwind. Doubles as my Heavy Frog rog/big swimbait rod, and I guess an umbrella rig rod if I ever actually threw one lol...
Re: What are You PUNCHING with?
2019 zbone 7.6 heavy + zillion type r. Each year I try to mix it up a bit but I don’t think I’ve gone to punching this frequently before. Maybe I figured something out that I wasn’t doing as well previously, but this rod is perfect in my hands for punching. I just don’t think much can be done to feel more and it facilitates hook set and landing to the point of being nearly automatic.

This year I will be giving the nrx 916 a shot. I picked it up a month ago. Still planning on picking up the MB Warhammer also.

Two rods that I use are a 7’3” omen heavy. The heavier weights used when punching works with the omen. I also use a 7’ heavy irod air when sensitivity is needed.
Re: What are You PUNCHING with?
I switched to the 916 this year. It's a great stick, but heavy compared to say the 795DX. For all day punching I can see it wearing my butt out lol. The DX795 is a special stick, thinking I should have held onto it.Team Bass wrote:This year I will be giving the nrx 916 a shot. I picked it up a month ago. Re: What are You PUNCHING with?
Has anyone used either the Phenix M1 7'8 Heavy or the 7'5 Extra Heavy for punching/flipping? I'm leaning more toward the 7'8 since I don't plan on using more than 1.5 ounce, but my past experience with Phenix is that the lure rating might be overrated and 1.5 ounce might be too much for that rod? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Step your punch game with IROD to the Genesis 2 Bub's Punch Rod or the new Air Bub's Air Punch (my next rod purchase). You won't be disappointed.FishingwithBranden wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 10:22 amTwo rods that I use are a 7’3” omen heavy. The heavier weights used when punching works with the omen. Re: What are You PUNCHING with?
just in Nov I moved to the zbone 7'10H. My last trip out in Nov did not have much to punch but the rod seems a joy to fish and made for punching. Hoping my trip next week finds me some opportunity to see what the rod can do when I'm bit in nasty stuff.Polkfish1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 5:40 pm2019 zbone 7.6 heavy + zillion type r.
