Ultimate Drop Shot set up
Re: Ultimate Drop Shot set up
Conquest rods are overrated and overpriced. I'd go with the addermine.
Re: Ultimate Drop Shot set up
I will put up my 15 JDM Exist 2510PE, paired with a Megabass Shorluck Limited 7'6 ML for any type of open water with depth dropshotting. I have it spooled with 20# Sunline Castaway, capped off with 8ft. of 6# Sunline Small Game FC II leader. I put this unit to work in Utah this weekend fishing off of a 40ft. rock dam, with depths quickly reaching 20-30ft. Lake bottom consisted of gravel with a light covering of Chara (Muskgrass). As pictured I am not using a dropshot, but for all intensive purposed fishing a Ned is the same difference. (for reference the rig is 8 grams). Even at the depth I was fishing, distinct bottom composition was transmitted clearly to my hand. Bites were soft, but easily discernable. A firm lift of the rod secured at least a 95% hookup and catch ratio with around 30 bass landed up to 2.5 pounds.
This combo was originally purchased for fishing the saltwater flats of SW FL(hence the baby blue braid), and it serves that purpose sensationally, it works equally well as a drop shot/ned/spybait combo. Dropshotting is generally conducted in deeper, open water. Long casts, sensitive rod tip, enough length in rod in conjunction with a bit of backbone to pull a fish are paramount.
Why the 15 Exist 2510PE? New at $500, it is a steal, if the 18 Exist is worth $300 more I would love to hear someone make the case.
You will be fortunate to find the Shorluck 7'6 ML, cant remember what I paid but I think it was around $300-375. If you can find one, grab it. It is a stellar rod both aesthetically and in functionality. An alternative would be the Phase 3 7'10 ICBM, I've seen one available, buy it before I do.
With all of that said, I actually prefer a baitcast setup for the ned rig, just because I enjoy baitcasters more. I wouldn't even think of using a baitcaster for a dropshot, especially if you are hanging more than 16 inches on your drop, what a pain in the arse to cast. If you are more into Bubba Shotting (who thought of that silly name? ), please disregard this post. PS. The Exist is not touching the rocks! The combo is spottless

Re: Ultimate Drop Shot set up
Sand Hollow Reservoir. Actually fished both Friday evening and Saturday evening from about 5:30 to 8:30pm. Friday caught between 25-30 bass, Saturday stopped counting at 30. Saturday, I actually caught 10 bass in my first 11 casts, pretty insane. I fished the spinning setup on Friday, just to get the dust off of it since my trip to FL. Saturday I used my IS 79 with a honeycomb spool and 8lb fluro on my Luxxe Oltre 67M. Swapped between the ned, TN60, Dark Sleeper, Dot Crawler...didn't matter caught fish on all of them.
Sand Hollow is pretty popular, so i am sure you know it well. I was fishing the South rock wall (not around the pipes). Bass boats would come and go, all casting up into the rocks and not catching much. I'm casting 30-40 yards out and catching most of my fish in 25 ft. of water where most bass boats weren't bothering.
That's great you live up near Salt Lake. Work takes me to Ely NV, Cedar City, and St. George area at least once a month. Would love to meet up and fish with you sometime!
Ely NV was great too. Caught 6 decent rainbow trout and a handful of small bass in a couple hours Comins Lake.
Trout were all caught on a Ned! Sorry for the thread highjack, were done. PM me Bronze

With the 2015 JDM Exist, what's the difference between the 2510 pe-h, and 2510 rpe-h?

my go to drop shot set up is Dobyns 742c extreme 2nd gen and shimano core 51. the reel is lined with 8 lbs gamma fluorocarbon. the set up is perfect of 1/4 oz weights on the tail end or weightless flukes, and senkos.

I started with a mediocre spinning setup by price but perfect in performance. The Cork crucial spinning rod and sustain reel at the time. Now I’ve gone to casting and have settled with and Aldebaran reel with a KTF spool and the reel of course has had the Ian treatment. The rod is a Kistler H3 rod med light I wanna say can’t think of it right this moment.
8-10# floro with the owner hook and I’ve done superbly with this setup. When I think of “Ultimate” I’m not really seeing price as a factor over performance. This is my “for me” ultimate setup but the reel and rod works so well together that I would put it against higher priced top tier gear.

Nope, it's whatever your interests and preference are.

I have a spinning but since Florida lakes aren’t super deep
I’m fishing 100’ max

Re: Ultimate Drop Shot set up
How do you plan on drop shotting? There's vertical (video game fishing), drop shot with drag/swimming, and power shotting. This is what I use:
Vertical: GLX 820 DSR w/ Stradic CI4+ 2500
Drop Swimming: 7'6 MML Steez AGS w/ Exsence 3000
Power Shotting: 893 NRX w/ Morethan PE TW 8.6

DS has been one of my go to techniques when nothing else will work.. or the guarantee for the wife to get bites
Wifes rig: OG black Cumara 6'8" with a 1000 CI4 (circle hook is key)
My open water: NRX822DSR with a Stella 1000FG. Nose hooking a plastic.
My brushy setup (trees in 20'): Custom LTB drop shot blank built into a casting rod with a modded Sol or a Cardiff 51SDC. Texas rigged DS weedless.
