What’s your 2019 Rod to have?

Post by goldrod » Sun Dec 23, 2018 7:47 am

I’m looking now. Been surfing the websites like I’m looking for crime scene clues

My next custom rod for 2019 will be chosen carefully from among the blanks of North Fork Composites made by Gary Loomis.

I am looking for a thin blank, with good backbone and fast action between 6'6" and 7' in the medium strength range.

My days of building crane rods is over. Today I am going lighter and enjoying the action much more so than just winching in fish with over kill rods and reels and 50 plus pound line.
Why is there a concerted effort of hate? And why is it allowed?

I’ll guess X7 re-vamp by popular demand.

Either a St. Croix or Major Craft 610-7' medium regular. I don't really have a shallow cranking rod, but I have a nice 6.3 T3 with upgrades that would be perfect for it.
This is the way.

For now anyways. I’ve been looking around and only the Valkyrie continues to seduce me.
Outside of thAt it’s probably another St. Croix or Kistler.
I can gamble on a reel but not a rod. if I don’t like a reel I can super tune it. doesn’t work
the same with rods

I since have a couple I'd like to add.

I don't have a Javelin to trade, but I would drive across the Potomac with a twelve pack if you let me see how the 110 Special feels next to a 783 and 844 GLX. :D The idea of finding a 783-like rod but with a shorter handle appeals to me and I have had my eye on the USDM 110 Special for a while now.

My "for sure" first 2019 rod is going to be an Addermine. A high-end spinning rod is the last thing I can legitimately buy and in I want to focus on both spinning rods and finesse presentations more next season. I have also accepted that it is time to sell off 4-5 of my more entry level BFS/UL casting rods and pick up a good one, so at some point before pre-spawn I need to get on that.

I love the addermine , not as sensitive as the nrx but I like it more than the nrx. Hard to explain that jdm feel , it’s casts very accurate and the blank loads so smoothly. I use mine for pretty much everything from weightless , wacky , dropshot , Neko , Ned etc.

I do not have a specific rod in mind. I actually have two NFC blanks in the closet to build and I am certainly looking forward to that. What I am really lusting after is high end ultra-light/light spinning rod. I recently bought a nice 1000 series spinning reel and would like a higher end rod to put it on. Alphahawk in the ultralight section has my head spinning with options. I fish small stream smallmouth a bunch so I really don't want something that tops out at 3 lb line. I usually use 4lb but do sometimes use 6 and might drop down to 2 lb but don't really foresee that happening. Anyway plenty of time to decide. I won't be doing any small stream wading for a while.

I got one I've been searching for delivered this week. A brand new F4ST-69RSDTI Hedgehog with US warranty. Tim you know from another forum there is an Exist LT going on it. Should be here in a couple days. Now Gary at the Trap will be getting an order on a river smallie small top water combo I've been wanting.
