NRX 895

For those of you that have this rod, what applications are you using it for? Is it primarily a power fishing stick for deep jugs or does it have more versatility?

No matter how much I wanted to like this rod, it is so tip heavy, unbearably so in my hands, It never stayed in my rotation...

I had this rod and used it for 1 season and hated it. It was basically a jig only rod, maybe heavy t-rigs, but that's all it did for me. It was however super sensitive but.....was the most tip heavy rod I have ever used for bottom contact. I quickly sold it and have zero regrets.

If you want to balance it out, you will have to attach a cinder block to the butt.

I use one for punching and it’s done a good job. Had to change the way I hold the rod, but works for me. I lock the rod butt under my forearm so the rod can’t tilt up and down and lift my whole arm with the rod instead of just the wrist. Don’t feel the tip heaviness when I fish this way. Working with your wrist only will definitely tire you out with this rod. That said, been using Conquest 905 now and it’s pretty awesome.

I'd like to see the balance point and handle length on this thing. I have the Zillion 801HFB and, while lightweight overall, it's on the tip heavy side. That didn't surprise me given the short handle length relative to other 8' flipping sticks. When measured from the socket for the back of the reel foot the handle is 11 1/8". I actually like that since it makes the business end that much longer and keeps the handle, which I don't use, from getting in the way. It's 5.3oz overall and with a Zillion TWS mounted balances a couple of inches in front of the nut. I'll post a picture later to illustrate. It's a pretty sensitive beast of a rod built with a singular purpose in mind. I'd say I fish it in a similar manner to JBCrankaddict, but I don't feel like it's necessary. Anyway, if the NRX is anything like it and you need a flipping/punching rod I wouldn't overlook it.
This is the way.

This and the comments following it are why this is the only NRX I don't own... I have the 916UBR instead - certainly not a lightwieght rod but with the full grip it balances farily well with a ZIllion weight reel. The 916 while marked as an umbrella rig rod for 3-8oz is more accurately suited for 1-5oz or so, and does well with a bit less even - 3/4oz+ jig and plastic for instance, heck even 5/8 oz frogs are do-able, although not ideal. 7/8oz frogs are fine though. I mainly use it as a 1.5oz punch rod though, and use an GLX 844C for most normal frogging. When it becomes a slop fest I switch over to the 916

Does it balance something like this? What is the handle length?

Yep. Sold it along with the 894. Neither felt right in my hands.

my 894 is nothing like the 895. I do use a balance kit and it balances at the nut as a result. The 895 just needed too much balance kit for me to like. Best application 1oz jigs and punching.
