LOOKING FOR Below 4oz Bass Casting Rod
LOOKING FOR Below 4oz Bass Casting Rod
I'm looking for a Medium power Fast Action rod in the 6'10 to 7' range that's light around 3.5oz and not tip heavy for $200 or under, would like to be around $150 honestly. I know I'm asking for a lot but just wanted to see if anyone can help me out with some input?

Well, both mediums are in that weight range, but classified as regulars. They'll totally work for those techniques, though. The 69M/BF is regular fast and is simply superlative for those techniques IMO, but you won't find any of them for less than $200 unless you know something I dont.Aquaftm45 wrote:poisonokie wrote:For light texas rigs, senkos, etc?

I was going to say the OG Tatula sticks might be a great choice, either the 6101MXB, 6101MHFB or 711MHXB. They're all around 3.75oz, so a bit heavier than the OP was seeking, but they are really nice, well balanced sticks. As for the new iteration, I don't know. I heard they at least felt heavy, but I haven't even held one, much less weighed them.

I don't think duckett is even remotely in the same category as majorcraft. Majorcrafts are very impressive for the $, the new ms-1 would fit the bill nicely. The phenix feather is also very nice for the $. Or you could shop around for a used higher $ rod. I got an HM black widow 704 for what price range you're looking to spend. The black widow is heavier than 4oz but it's so balanced and tip light that it feels lighter than most rods.

I don't know how light the ms-1's are. The Volkey I had was almost as well balanced as, but also nearly an oz heavier than its MS-X counterpart. I don't know what's most important for the OP.ss30378 wrote:I don't think duckett is even remotely in the same category as majorcraft. Please no. These are substandard rods at any price point. You will get some good suggestions.Edward78 wrote:I'm looking at the Duckett triad now but nit sure of the weight ?

Didn't see the 7' MXB, but that would also be a great choice at that price.

Those Zillions....the sensitivity really underwhelmed me. Just my opinion, your results may vary.poisonokie wrote:https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 2578349436

Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Which model? The 661HFB isn't bad for a pool cue dock skipping/tight quarters heavy cover stick. It doesn't "wow" me or anything, but it's pretty good. I wish they would've gone with smaller guides, but the ones they use don't even register the existence of heavy braid to heavy leader connection knots, so that's what I use it for.hoohoorjoo wrote:Those Zillions....the sensitivity really underwhelmed me. The 801HFB surprised me with its sensitivity for such a long, powerful rod, but then I only use it with 20# fluoro and 3/4+ tungsten with no more than 20' of line out.

I know balance is more important than overall weight but I do like light rods. Will be putting a daiwa SS reel on the rod I chose. It just sucks that most manufacturers don’t list their rod weights.

Re: LOOKING FOR Below 4oz Bass Casting Rod
I agree. That would really simplify things. You can try searching the model number of whatever rods you're looking at in the rod weights thread. That won't likely tell you much about balance, though.
For a reel that light, you're going to have trouble getting a well balanced setup in that weight/price range. I'd take the previous advice and seek a heavier, intrinsically balanced rod.

Re: LOOKING FOR Below 4oz Bass Casting Rod
Well I have not weighted one but the Shimano SLX is a light rod and lists for $100. St. Croix has the Bass-X at $100 also but for me the Avid is a much better rod at $200 MSRP. I do not know the weights on any of them but if you have not decided by Tuesday I could weight them for you. TFO has some nice rods in your price range. I have handled all the above rods but not fished any. I do not recall any of them as being very tip heavy. In your price range there are alot of good rods. Once again if you have not decided by Tuesday I can weight some for you.
