had similar happen to a mb xx sbs and a lipless cb years ago (the sound it made! without looking i though the rod snapped). i couldn't find a single mark on blank under magnification, luckily since then it hasn't shown any signs of concern. that is one tough wrap on the gen 1 xx.

It died honorably in the line of duty, no shame there. Yeah it sucks, but better it go that way rather than spend it’s days as a shelf queen that never saw action. The fishing gods require tribute occasionally

I had a 6'10" light expride and was crappie fishing from the bank when i got snagged on a pice of willow grass. I had a 1/16 oz bullet shaped jig head and 2" keitech tied on and when i tried to pull it free the bait came flying back and hit the rod blank it sounded like a 22 rifle when it hit and i knew it was broke for the sound and impact i felt.

Shattered adrena m166 while tossing a pop x. Sent it to shimano. Rod tech said it looked like lure might have caught the rod on my casting motion. Sent me a new Expride and some lures. Very pleased with shimino
