What do you prefer. My vote goes for Moderate Fast.

I prefer a fast taper with a softer tip into the backbone of the rod like the Conquest 842, steez rd shallow cover finesse among others. I have a lot of rods with mod fast that work well, but I think the faster tip is less work and shorter pops to get the same action especially when the bite is all day. The softer tip into the backbone is important with the fast taper so you don’t rip trebles out.

Controverted subject, moderate fast suits my needs.
That being said, I think rod taper must be combined with line type to be effective, one might argue reel ratio as well.
To each their own tho.

Good Evening

taper and power together determine my application

I voted fast, i am using a Med / fast 1/4 - 1/2oz rated rod and the fast tip gives me the desired lure action and the med power has enough flex to handle fish on treble hooks.
If I were fishing Med - MH rod 1/ 4 - 1oz I would search for a softer taper potentially mod-fast action to get the same results.

Thanks
Trevor

I really like the med/fast rod action for moving baits, but with jerkbaits I prefer the fast action. Bought a MB oneten and couldn't be happer.

Fast if using a medium power rod. Mod-fast if using a medium heavy.

Fast action. Love some MBR rods for jerkbaits, 2 and 3 power rods whether 6’6” or 7’(though I do like the lighter tips of the 7’ rods). MH has no trouble with keeping fish pinned as long as the hooks are matched correctly.

I like a medium heavy moderate action high modulus rod for use with braid & a leader. I have an Otterrods built on a St Croix 7'2" legend extreme blank The better quality rods are more crisp handling when working the bait. When I'm using straight fluoro I like a medium heavy X fast LEXF-3MH-70 Z bone. I use a lot of 5/8, 3/4 & 1 ounce jerkbaits so the MH is the ticket. For me line choice dictates rod action because you have to have some give in the system whether it's the line or the rod.

The age old debate. Been discussed many, many times.
