Personally, i never understood the point of shaving off weight at the section of the rod that balances it
You have a point. At least if they are trending to split grips they should add weight in the butt cap or piece to help with balance. I do that on most of my rods.
Same here. All my custom rod have some type of counterbalance added. It seems strange to say, but adding weight in the right place makes a rod less fatiguing to use and actually makes it more sensitive, as well.
Yup!

Fenwick re introduced their Techna AV series as the Techna PX series with 3M Powerlux resin.
These are full handle cork rods.

The Techna AV was the best line of rods ever made by Fenwick in the early 2000-2007 time period and were very popular amongst the BASS/FLW pros during that time.and the first few years they were made they were USA made rods , before going overseas.

They also have always had their full handled HMG line.

The Fenwich Aetos fly rod is one of the best out there for the price, it blows a lot of more expensive rods away.

Sorry a bit off topic :big grin:

Totally agree with you!! Those American-made Techna AVs with Fuji SiC's were IMO tied for the best rods ever produced, alongside the original Loomis GLX rods with Weibe handles. I kick myself every day for not buying a stable full of both those lineups.

Can you guys provide a picture of link to the specific Techna AV models you're referring to?

They have not been Mfg in over 10 years.

See link above on the reintroduced updated version with 3M power lux.

They look almost exactly the same as the original.

^ those look pretty awesome ^ I may have to try one of those out. I love the way that full grip is implemented, too, with it being narrower in the middle and glaring out at either end.

That 68MH/XF sounds killer.
This is the way.

If i wasn't downsizing Id try the 6'11". Seems like it would compliment my PXTR/ Finesse SS combo
but I can not.. so please do a review on either of the models you get.. I'd wait for the next TWH sale but Id like to hear the results now. So I hope you buy it.

Any technique that requires a longer handle tucked under your armpit is substantially more comfortable with a full grip. You'll notice that swimbait rods with longer handles rarely have a split grip. A split grip is okay for shorter handles where the rear handle is not tucked under your armpit (i.e. jerkbait/topwater).
All of my custom rods have full cork. I did buy a 7'11"H Powell split grip swimbait rod back in the day before a blank this size was available for a custom build. I quickly removed the knob on the split grip and replaced it with full cork. This is easy to do if you love a split grip rod production rod, minus the split.

I bought a boat from an FLW pro back in 2002. We fished quite a bit together. He loved the Techna AV's. He is a jig specialist and the Techna AV was all the rage for bottom contact baits back then. He used to get all giddy whenever he had his Techna AV jig rod in his hands. It was funny to see.

With grips like these, that is a non-issue:

I can see that with this type:

I much prefer the former, regardless of technique.

I’ve always wondered why more companies don’t make both split and full grips available. It’s pretty obvious some people prefer one over the other so why keep limiting them to only one option?

Lol, well I would wait for the sale, too, and I might as well go all in and get the World Class with a better blank and Fuji guides, right? I like the grip on the Techna, but not that much...
