Conquest 903 vs 843

Post by russ57 » Sun Oct 06, 2019 10:45 am

It's the off season for me now because of work, but before next season I want to upgrade to one bottom contact rod for everything from senkos to 3/8 jigs, and I am torn between the 843C and 903C (I am also going to get the 842S for my nice spinning rod). I prefer longer jig rods, but for senkos and overall mobility the 843 seems like the better choice, and unless I decide to uses the 842 for T-rigged senkos (would probably use it for wacky rig regardless). I assume the 903 has more power due to the additional length? The NRX line is out due to the poor balance, GLX is out because out the reel seat.

any reason you did not put the 893 NRX in the race?

I’m sure someone on the internet might say that but on that rod a non-factor in my hand It performs near perfection with the application you state

903 would be the choice as i prefer a longer rod. I use my 903 for senkos and texas rig to 1/2oz.

How is the balance? I'm assuming its at least decent given the full cork grip. On hook sets with jigs I vastly prefer he extra 6 inches, I feel like it makes a huge difference.

If the balance is there, I would lean 903, then. Everyone says the NRX 893 is the most versatile, so I'm assuming that is true in the conquest line with the 903C as well.

903C is way more versatile than the 893C, i never throw moving baits on my 893c but do so all the time with the 903c. 893c is a bottom contact rod only imo.

I prefer very soft rods for moving baits, so I probably wouldn't but good to know. So it would be a good 3/8 jig rod?

Do you know if any loomis dealers in the Midwest who would actually carry the conquests?

one of the challenges buying any high end rod that I can think of. No one carry's them. I have not been in a store that might carry such an animal for a long time but I can't see a Cabela's having them or at least in any distribution. Even finding an NRX on display is rare.
