GLX reel seats

Post by russ57 » Thu Nov 14, 2019 8:47 pm

Talking spinning and casting. I am thinking about an 842S and and/or 893C, but I hear weird things about the reel seats on both the spinning and casting models. Thoughts?

The newest GLX rods? If so I don’t find them bad at all. I have a GLX MBR 844 I have been fishing for a few years with no issues on the seat the uncomfortable.

I tried a casting rod and found the reel seat a little cramped, like my hand didn't have enough room on the underside of the seat. Could just be the way I hold my rods/reels though.

What reels were you using on it?

The only reel I tried was a Metanium. Holding the rod without a reel felt a little tight also.

I have an 852S and find the reel seat to be very comfortable. Now I haven't fished it for a day straight or anything like that, but I've put a few hours on it at a time and liked it.

The trigger is thicker on the new proprietary seat. I have a pic that shows a comparison between the new seat and the old fuji. The old fuji seat allowed for all fingers in front of the trigger if you wanted to, but also comfortable with your pinky finger behind the trigger. The new seat has less room with the thicker trigger and my fingers feel cramped. I do have large/long hands, and do realize someone with smaller hands may not have this issue.

What reels did you use

I never understood those reviews because they are most comfortable reels on a rod I’ve ever had.

I have a 893c and don't notice it feeing cramped when fishing it but when i read about this issue and think about it holding it i feel like its cramped. The core 100s/ jdm metainium mgs fit me very good on the 2016 glx. I recently got a aldebaran and put it on my 893 and it feels cramped but maybe its just because im thinking about how a lot of people say its uncomfortable

Comparing the GLX seats to the NRX seats using Mets, the GLX trigger in addition to being thicker is also positioned slightly forward with respect to the reel. I fish with 2 fingers above the trigger and do not notice my fingers being cramped with either rod unless it’s cold and I’m wearing gloves. It is more noticeable using Mets with their larger gearbox than with other reels.

I’m not sure if I want to go all the way to the conquest, and was thinking the GLX could be the next step up from an expride, but the reel seat is concerning.

I have a 783c and a 844c and I don't like the seat on either of them. It seems to push my hand into the trigger and about half of the reels I have tried on them are ergonomically awful. Small reels like Alphases or Aldebarans feel the best.

So GLX casting is out for me. Can anyone comment on the spinning reel seat? Tackletour review said it was super big and make noise when you shake it.
