I have some 1/6oz ZMan Finesse TRD Ned heads, so it does go past 1/8oz, but not much further.
Ned Rod
Re: Ned Rod
There are magnum Ned heads, as well, I've been fishing a 7/16 oz Nichols JT Magnum Ned Head this winter. Not my first choice, but it's the only way for me to reach some winter fish from shore, particularly because the actual ElaZtech Ned worms weigh so little. (I can cast a tube on a 3/8 oz head just as far because the actual 3 1/2 inch tube adds way more weight.)

Re: Ned Rod
If you noticed Z-Man calls them a "Shroomz" head, not a Ned head. In-Fisherman had a write up on it, 1/32oz to 1/8oz but most purists don't go past 3/32oz. You won't feel bottom because the rig itself is called a "no feel" technique. If you can feel the bait hit the bottom you are fishing a jig worm or shaky head but again, it is just really semantics but it is true, we tend to go overboard on the size of tackle used for the ned rig.

Re: Ned Rod
Well, looking at TW, there are some "Finesse Shroomz jig heads" and also "Pro Shroomz Ned Rig jigheads". They're intended for the Ned rig. I weighed a 1/10oz Shroomz head with a classic TRD Ned worm on it and it came out at something like 0.21oz, just over 1/5oz, and I feel like you should be able to feel bottom with that. I only got a little Ned fishing in last year and honestly didn't really like that I couldn't feel anything. So if I go heavier and it's technically more like fishing a shaky head, whatever. It's still a Ned style head and bait, dragged and hopped just like you'd do with a shaky head (or Ned rig), you can just feel bottom.smalljaw wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 4:19 amIf you noticed Z-Man calls them a "Shroomz" head, not a Ned head. Re: Ned Rod
With the right tackle and wind you can feel with a 1/10th oz head (or lighter) just fine. Get the wind blowing 30+ and most people are totally lost with 1/4+ oz even. It’s all relative to the conditions, depth, and plenty of other variables. Let’s not get carried away, people do throw small ned style baits without jig heads even. Can you imagine the next hottest new thing will be a 3” “sinko” with no jighead?!?? My how the years fly by.

3 inch dinger, 1/0 EWG hook , I couldn't even begin to count how many bass I have caught on that rig over the years.

after finally giving this post look see
Re: Ned Rod
For neds near cover i use my nrx 852s but don’t fish near too much cover so my expride 7’ light+ gets the win for 95% of my ned fishing. That rod has truly blown me away! What a versatile and powerful little rod, hooked a 5.5lber which pulled me into some thick weeds and this little rod fought back no problem! Last year I spend a significant amount of time with it trying to find a reasonable weakness and couldn’t. Neds, small tubes, small hairless, jerks and spybaits!

It’s funny you don’t hear much about it and don’t know if I could go without it now! What reel do you have on yours?cndbasshunter wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2020 8:08 amyes. i have 4 2power nrx and conquests and love how the 7" L fits in with them. Perfect open water ds, sb and ned rod.
