One ten special

Post by johnmyers » Wed Dec 18, 2019 8:14 pm

Thinking about buying Megabass Destroyer one ten special. I fish a lot of Lucky Craft 78 and 97 pointers. Any of you using this rod.
Thanks
John

Its one of my favorites in the US Destroyer lineup. I carry 2 of them in the boat. Good topwater rod as well. I occasionally use it on shaeyheads and even dropshots when using a baitcaster for those presentations.

I have this rod paired up with an Aldebaran for jerkbaits. I love it.

I have mine paired with a Steez SV TW in gold trim and 7:1 gears, plus a little ZPI magic. It is a fantastic jerk bait rod, one of my favorites. Like Mark, I use mine for a lot more than jerk bait fishing, and yes even some light bottom contact stuff. It is a very versatile rod and a lot of fun to fish.

How well does the 110 Special handle the Pointer 78’s? They are at the bottom end of the rod’s rating.

Would you choose it over the X4 OneTen Stick? I find myself slapping the water often with a 6'10" rod but I am also not very tall. :-k

Paired with the Steez SV TW and 8# FC, I think it does a pretty good job with the Pointer 78. It's a little on the stout side, but still fishes them effectively.

The X4 OneTen Stick is a very different rod than the US Destroyer 110 Special. The X4 is a lot like the current production XXX OneTen stick - short and moderate. I actually really like both the X4 and XXX models and I think both of them handle the Pointer 78 better than the US Destroyer model. Generally speaking, I prefer the US Destroyer model overall for jerk bait fishing.
