NXR 873 vs 893

I plan on using the rod for pitching plastics from 3/16 to 5/16 oz and jigs with a zoom super chuck trailer. Jigs will be strictly 3/8 oz. I will be using 15 pound fluorocarbon. Which rod would suite me better? 873 or 893?

so light the 893 is fine depending on cover.

I will be fishing 1 to 8 feet of water. Cover will be wood and sparse grass.

893C would be perfect for this. The 893C is also the sensitivity king IMO.

Thanks for the input everyone. I thought most would say 893. Since the water is almost hard here I'm going to look for a deal on an 893. What reel out of these 4 would best balance the rod? Chronarch 50mg, Alphas sv 105, ss sv 103 or a tatula sv? Thanks

Basically, yes. What do you have in mind to steer me in a different direction?

So it’s a bit more powerful than a 873

But the new steez Ags bottom contact is a fabulous rod and worth a look

Better balance to me

Great pitching and bottom contact rod As the name says

I figured someone was going to mention the new 7'5 steez rod! The rod does interest me. However, for a dedicated rod for up to a 3/8oz jig I feel the 893 would suite me better. I already have a good setup for 1/2 jigs.

It’s a great rod and always worth considering But might be a touch too powerful for what you want

I agree with you! Now, what reel do I put on the 893?

The heaviest reel will balance the best.

The metanium matches very well to the 893 as does the bantam.

Tackle tour way to go is get both rods. I fish similar weighs that you’re referring to & theres a need for both rods in my lineup. I started with a curado 70xg on my 893, then the Metanium mgl, now I have jdm steez sv tw xh. That rod is so light(my green one 3.9), balance is really not a issue. I’d go with the lightest reel possible, the met mgl Xg at right at 6oz & can be found for $300 & under is the best high end reel option out there IMO
