Conquest 905C balance

Post by Bay_Bassin86 » Wed Jan 22, 2020 4:33 am

Just recently picked up a conquest 905 and was trying to find a reel to balance it out better. I tried the bantam mgl and it was tip heavy. They I tried a conquest dc200 and that was better but not perfect, it balanced at the first blue band above the reel seat. Would a conquest 300a be to much for that rod throwing a-rigs and swimbaits?

Most guys use 300 - 400 for swimbaits and arigs. but to me tip down presentations you wont really notice any unbalance with a 200 size cq.

I think a conquest 300 would be perfect. Might be worth trying a ryoga too

I use a Curado 300 on mine when it is used for A rigs and the balance is fine.

I don't think you are going to find a reel that will balance that rod out nicely. The main reason is that the reel sits more than 12" up from the butt end of the rod and creates a fulcrum point in the balance. Adding more weight at that fulcrum point will slightly improve balance but with diminishing returns as your total weight of the setup (rod + reel) will increase dramatically. In my opinion this will take away from the high price you paid for that premium rod making it feel heavy.

The best solution to fix balance problems is to add weight to the butt cap on the rod. This way you increase weight distribution on the rod to the rear much better, therefore improving balance.

I used to have the NRX 895C and it had horrendous balance, it needed almost 2.5 ounces at the rear (chair leg protector with quarters inside) to balance. This brought the total weight of the rod alone to almost 8 oz. No thanks.
