anyone fish a Dobyns 735C??
I'm about to pull the trigger on this rod sight unseen to use for bottom contact used in the Biffle "bottom banging" technique with swing head jigs, and was hoping someone who fishes the rod could comment if they felt it would be a suitable rod for that purpose, throwing 1/2 and 3/4 weighted swing head jigs. This 7.3" rod is rated as a MH rod with Xfast action. Seems most "in the know" feel the MH is better than a H because you have more tip with the MH and the bites on this method are typically mushy to slack so having some tip is helpful. Of course dragging through rocky bottom isn't an uncertain hazard soI'd think you'd need enough tip not to encourage hangups.....

Thanx for passing that on. I couldn't locate any reviews. Seems pretty solid & because the review makes a point of questioning whether it should be rated as Heavy instead of MH, that just gives me a bit more confidence that it will handle the rocky bottom ok.

I think this rod would be great for that technique. I usually use it to throw 3/8 - 1/2 oz keitechs a mile bouncing it off every rock and I can get a good hook-set when it's way out there.

If the action is anything like the 745, it would be great for that. My 745 has a great strong backbone but a nice tip. I usually throw large 12+ inch worms, jigs, and heavy texas rigs.
