What rod/reel combo has/will withstand the test of time?
What combo do you HAVE to have with you at all times? it can be something from 20 yrs ago but it can also be something you bought recently that you know will be with you for the foreseeable future. Just trying to have some fun here. Pictures are welcome as well as more than 1 combo.

Reel - Zillion platform (TD-Z style). Still using some of mine and they are as good or better than anything coming out now.
Rod - hard to say here. Technology has gotten supremely better. I still think SiC guides are as good as they come for the price and value, so there is a component that will stand the test of time.

Im still using:
G Loomis MBR 843/844 with Calais 200a for sprinnerbaiting
G Loomis CBR 845 with Calais 100a for cranking
G Loomis MBR 782 with Daiwa TD-Z 100M w/6.3 gears for jerk baiting. Not horribly old, but kinda....

I will go with my original Shimano chronarch 50 and the Loomis 782. For jerkbaits, poprs and sammy 85 I don't think you would find a better combo even 15 years later
the rods imo stand the test of time better then reels. The advent of technology from 2000 to 2010 that helped Mfg process greatly helped reels and golf equipment. the loomis Glx 843 existed before 2005 and to me still holds up well.

Rod: Daiwa Fle-X-Lite 7' Medium. I cant seem to get rid of it. So perfect for almost any bait within its range.
Reel: Probably my Alphas SV. Its mounted on the Fle-X-Lite. Just does it all so well.

Rod Powell Max 733
Reel Quantum Burner the original 7/1 ratio
This combo is perfect for me for anything 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz.

Re: What rod/reel combo has/will withstand the test of time?
My Loomis BCR803 GLX rod. T-rig and finesse jig dream! Probably stills the most sensitive rod I own.
Re: What rod/reel combo has/will withstand the test of time?
I liked my 803, but really loved my 852bcr. Those recoils really gave that glx series a boost in sensitivity. Not really talked about much, but recoils seem to be the 'drag radials' of guides with most rods running street tires. Makes me wonder if the new Envy lost any sensitivity since they dropped the recoils...even with an updated blank.

Daiwa SS700 paired with a Loomis GL3 spinning rod.
Ned Rigs, Bait fishing, freshwater, saltwater. You name it, it's done it.

My Calcutta 101hg 2015 it still going as good as the day I got it.
My guess is the new Metanium and Batam will last a long time also.
So far my Stella 18 and Daiwa Certate have both been amazing but they are still pretty new.
My first NRX 852c is still going strong also, that's been a good 6-7 years now I think....

i still use my GLX BCR 803 all the time, mostly with 1/4oz arky jigs. has an aldebaran 51 on it now but i'd still use it with the core it had previously.

Phase III Nautilus with Megabass IS 71 with purple PG spool is a combo ive always got on me and catch a ton of bass on. Also my 7' Medium Steez Flexlite with a TDZ Personal Order has been my primary cranking setup for about 7 years and have no plans to look for anything different.
