Sensitive jig rod
Im thinking about getting a rod for 3/8-1/2 oz jigs. Something sensitive. I'd like to keep it at or under $400 (used is an option so you can suggest $500 rods). Thanks
Re: Sensitive jig rod
I'll throw out the FMJ as an obvious top-of-your-budget option. It really is awesome, though - got one this winter, got to land an 8 pounder on it and it didn't break a sweat. Super stout rod but the tip is very sensitive. Not the lightest rod you'll own, but well balanced.
One possible issue is that IMHO, the FMJ works best with 1/2oz jigs and is a bit overpowered for 3/8. Sensitivity is fine for lighter jigs, but the rod doesn't load super deeply into the blank when casting, so it's harder to whip lighter baits as far as you might on (for example) a Loomis 843.

Another suggestion I got (but didn't get to try) when I was looking for a new jig rod was the Poison Adrena.

US market - Grab a new Z Bone or K2. The umbx is no slouch either, and the new models should be out soon.
JDM - Something from the folks at Evergreen, or perhaps an Ultima or Glorious, depending on what you can find in your price range. These would be my suggestions. Let us know what you end up grabbing

NRX873 for me.
Re: Sensitive jig rod
In that price range find a deal on a NRX894, Evergreen Egoist or Gunslinger, or Steez AGS Bottom Contact. Enjoy the search.
Re: Sensitive jig rod
Poison Adrena 72H should be a great 1/2 ounce jog rod IMO.

I've really been wanting a zbone so I may go that route. I may be tempted to get another glorious (not sure if I could spring for the ultima but they look awesome).Hogsticker2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 30, 2020 2:34 pmUS market - Grab a new Z Bone or K2. Re: Sensitive jig rod
I hesitated on a steez bottom contact and missed out. Used a couple times, Like new, local and $100 under new price. I had heard of it but was looking for reviews. I'll check out some of the others you mentioned.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with the X Ray blank. Much better than HM imo.chrisg_sdcf wrote: ↑Mon Mar 30, 2020 7:28 pmI've really been wanting a zbone so I may go that route. Re: Sensitive jig rod
Can't speak to the 74 since I haven't handled it.
I got the 72 in today and pitched a jig around my apartment some. Sensitivity is very impressive and the handle gives the whole setup a very connected feel which is hard to describe but very unique, at least among the rods I have used. The taper is very regular and the rod loads really deeply into the blank. IMO that is a good thing since a deep load will keep the fish finned on a jig. It is definetly not as powerful as a 76H expride.
For frog fishing I may need to go up to the 74H model though, honestly. I may order it from TW to check out the taper, if it seems too stiff I can send it back.

Re: Sensitive jig rod
Thanks for the info. I have a 2 piece 6'10" M that is very nice. Wouldn't mind another adrena. I do like to try other brands too though. We'll seeruss57 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 30, 2020 8:01 pmCan't speak to the 74 since I haven't handled it.
