bfs-ish rod?

Post by Jason Penn » Fri Apr 03, 2020 12:09 pm

i'm looking a rod to take over duties for a m powered spinning set up. i don't plan on throwing crappie jigs with it, lowest weights would probably be 1/8oz head & finesse worm. i'm looking for suggestions because this is a new area for me.

i just got a shallow spool for a tat sv. i have got a 7'ml bps carbonlite, but i'm looking for something a little crisper and geared towards bottom contact baits. the cl seems like it would be good for light cranks though.

I’m in the same boat. I was thinking about picking up the 6’11m+ poison Adrena and hope it’s not to heavy.

I'm also in the same boat. I'm strongly considering the Destroyer Hein. I've been scrolling throw forums like a zombie for some time and it seems so be "the one" for 1/4 and some 1/8 bottom contact stuff. I also briefly considered the legend x 610mxf but I heard it's a bit stiff. But it you're not trying to spend that much Phenix m1 2020 6'9 ML is an awesome candidate.

The phenix k2 713ml seems like ti would fit the bill. Ive got one that im currently selling because im moving to shorter rods, but its incredibly sensitive and crisp. There are also quire a few JDM rods that fit your needs-the poison glorious series has a few rods that might work for you

Ordered a Champion Extreme 702C last week. Not as sensitive as the other rods you are mentioning, but at the 40% off price I couldn't pass it up.

I love the DX 702C for 5" senkos. You wont be disappointed.

Sweet! I've ordered the Alphas CT SV for it. Going to use it mostly for 1/8 neds but if it works for senkos too, that would be even better. Have you thrown neds on it?

Piggybacking off of this.. does anyone know of a short BFS(ish) rod, like between 6' and 6'6"? I thought about a GLX 782C, but they rate it to 1/4oz (while I want something around 1/8oz at the low end), and it's already at the longest I'd want, AND it's also really expensive. I'd love something like a 6'3" MLF rated for 1/8oz to 1/2oz. Soft enough tip to cast/retrieve small crappie jigs with a plastic (no float), but also enough backbone and the right taper to throw a 5" Senko or 1/4oz finesse jig and trailer and not be overloaded on the retrieve. I would love such a rod. Something tells me that if it exists, though, it's gonna have to come from Japan, for lotta moolah. :(

I've thrown a ton of Neds on it using a Pixy Type R, and Airy Red Pixilla.
But I eventually settled on the 852 Nrx for Neds

i used the carbonlite ml yesterday, and it's definitely a moving bait rod. i caught 2 fish on it, 1 on an 1/8oz ned and the other on the small lc pointer (2 hook). i missed another fish on the ned with it. it's just a slower action than i want for bottom contact baits.

i think i've narrowed my search down to either a major craft corzza 6'9 ml, or i may get someone to build me a rod on the point blank 6'9 ml. i sent a message to major craft since i couldn't actually purchase from their site. they got back with me last night. i'm waiting for another response.

This rod seems to have pretty broad lure rating and I am wondering how true it stays to it. What is your opinion on its low and high end?
