Nrx 852c jwr
Nrx 852c jwr
Just purchased the nrx 852c jwr . It’s very hard to find these rods I was searching for the 853 but couldn’t find it anywhere so I pulled the trigger on the 852 . I’m just curious for some feedback about the ratings being maxed at 3/8 . I’m looking to throw a weighted senko/craw . Prob a 3/16 tungsten or 1/4 . If anyone has this rod or has used one I would love some feedback . Thanks

I do a loooooot of 3/16 tungsten and creature on the 853. Not that the 852 wouldn't be fine necessarily, but the 853 is the stick for what you want IMO.

I have it’s a great review. Just curious on how it handles weighted Texas rigs weighing a half ounce between weight worm and hook

Thanks for the feedback

Personally, I think a 3 power would handle the 3/8 ounce + plastic better. I liked that rod for 1/8-1/4 plus plastic.

I love my 852, I use it mostly as a tube jig rod.
1/4 oz plus 3.5" tube, I have never found a better rod for dragging bottom.

Re: Nrx 852c jwr
When I first got my 852c it was my go to rod for 3/16 & 1/4oz shakyhead, my hookup to land ratio wasn’t the best. The rod is soft & if you’re using light line, you can’t really hit them fish hard as you need to considering you having to drive that hook thru the worm THEN in a fish mouth. I had a 853 for maybe 6 months, sold it & got the 893 & been happy since. Now my 852c sits on the rod rack w/o a reel. With how soft it is, I’ve had better use for it as a treble hook bait even though it’s a x-fast action

I mostly use mine for dragging tubes with a 1/8 oz jighead, weightless flukes, and jerkbaits. Sometimes I will throw texas rigs with 1/8 oz weight and a finesse worm. It's definitely an open water rod. For 3/16 or 1/4 oz Texas rigs, I use an 893 NRX.
Re: Nrx 852c jwr
I own the 853, in my experience, it becomes overpowered at around a 1/2oz total weight, maybe slightly less. It fishes great with 3/8oz jig and trailer. Great unweighted senko rod also.
Re: Nrx 852c jwr
I have an IMX-Pro 852C JWR to compare. Unlike what the other members have said about the NRX, I find it to be quite versatile on the upper end of the weight rating. I use it for 5" and 6" senkos, both weighted (1/8-1/4oz) and unweighted, 1/4oz finesse jigs + trailer, 1/4oz shaky heads, and never find it lacking for anything. It has more than enough power to hookset through the plastic, I get great hookups. Maybe there is a difference between the NRX and the IMX-Pro. To me it's the perfect 12lb line rod. It has excellent backbone, and is a great stick for lots of things. How did you end up liking your rod?
